Obtenebration

Level 1 - Shadow Play

Manipulate the shadows around you to intimidate or hide. This unnatural power terrifies mortal witnesses.⚠ </br>

System: Spend a Blood Point to control the shadows in the area for the rest of the scene. There are three ways to use this ability. You can target yourself with this effect for stealth, adding 1 die to your Stealth rolls and +1 difficulty to any ranged attacks against you. If you use Shadow Play to make yourself more fearsome, add 1 die to all Intimidation rolls. You can also target enemies, causing them to lose 1 die from all Stamina-based pools. Mortals reduced to Stamina 0 by this effect will suffocate and die in (their Stamina) turns. This is not cumulative with other Stamina-reduction effects. Mortals affected in this way must make a Courage roll (difficulty 8) or take -1 to all actions. Any of these three effects lasts for the scene, but only one can be active at a time.

Level 2 - Nocturne

Create a cloud of abyssal darkness that blinds and suffocates anyone inside. The cloud lasts for as long as you concentrate on it.⚠ </br>

System: Roll Manipulation + Occult (difficulty 7). One success calls up a 10 foot diameter cloud. Extra successes can be used to add 10 feet to the diameter. The cloud reduces Perception pools by 5 (or 2 if using supernatural perception) and increases the difficulty of all actions by 2. To call the Nocturne up outside your line of sight, you must spend a Blood Point and increase the activation difficulty by 2. Mortals who enter the Nocturne must make a Courage roll (difficulty 7) or panic and flee. Anyone trapped inside the Nocturne loses 2 dice from all Stamina-based pools. Mortals reduced to Stamina 0 by this effect will suffocate and die in (their Stamina) turns. This is not cumulative with other Stamina-reduction effects. If you dedicate your entire action to moving the Nocturne, it can roll around at your normal walking pace.

Level 3 - Black Metamorphosis

Merge your body with darkness, becoming half animate shadow and half undead monster.⚠ </br>

System: Spend 2 Blood Points and roll Stamina + Courage (difficulty 7). If you fail, the blood used to activate this power is wasted. If you botch, you suffer 2 unsoakable Lethal damage. While in this form, you gain a number of effects. The first is 3 extra dice for all Intimidation rolls. Mortals and animals must roll Courage (difficulty 8) or flee in terror from the sight of you. You can see in complete darkness without penalty. Anyone in physical contact with you loses 2 dice from all Stamina-based pools. Mortals reduced to Stamina 0 by this effect will suffocate and die in (their Stamina) turns. This is not cumulative with other Stamina-reduction effects.

Level 4 - Nightshades

Craft illusions from shadow that appear realistic in the dark.⚠ </br>

System: Roll Wits + Occult (difficulty 7). Each success creates one human-sized shadow-figure. Successes can be combined to create very large illusions. These illusions are not realistic under direct, bright light. Otherwise, it requires a Perception + Alertness roll (difficulty 9) to tell they are false.
The shadows summoned by Nightshades can also fill 10-yards per success with shadowy madness, reducing the Initiative of any character without Obtenebration in the area by 3 and applying a 2 dice penalty to all actions.

Level 5 - Tenebrous Form

Turn into a mass of living shadow that is invulnerable to physical attack and can ooze through tiny openings.⚠ </br>

System: Spend 3 Blood Points and transform over three turns. Additional Blood Points can be used to reduce the transformation time, to a minimum of one turn. As a shadow, you're immune to physical damage, but cannot physically attack. Only the Banes can hurt you, but they deal double damage. If you engulf a victim, all their Stamina-based dice pools are reduced by 2. Mortals reduced to Stamina 0 by this effect will suffocate and die in (their Stamina) turns. This is not cumulative with other Stamina-reduction effects. Mortals and animals who witness your transformation (but not just your shadow-self) must roll Courage (difficulty 8) or flee in terror from the sight.
