Detroit By Night

The Theater District and Cultural Center

Rivertown

Detroit’s oldest neighborhood, this four-block strip between Jefferson Avenue and the Detroit
River has become a thriving entertainment district with the most expensive real estate in the city.
Casinos and eclectic shopping venues have sprung up along the water’s edge where abandoned
warehouses and shipping docks used to stand fifteen years ago. The area is well-lit and kept
clean in order to entice visitors to come here and spend their money. The night time activity
and noise doesn’t sit well with residents in the fine old houses along Jefferson, but few have
decided to relocate for this reason alone.
