Motown Down

Terrence Aburto
10th generation Nosferatu neonate
Appearance: A short and stocky man, donned in shapeless clothes
and covered by a black overcoat and gloves. His bald head is covered
with purple sores, and his face is grossly wrinkled. A crooked tuft
of beard hangs off of his sunken chin.

Terrence was a longshoreman in the final decades of the nineteenth
century. One night as he was walking home from work near the docks,
a grotesque dark figure emerged from the river and dragged Terrence
into the black depths. He lay under the mud of the river bottom in
torpor for nearly 40 years and emerged to a changed Detroit. The
city’s other Nosferatu grudgingly accepted his presence, and Terrence
has existed on the outskirts of kindred society ever since. He met
and befriended a strange group of vampires who sought shelter in the
basement of a waterfront house where Terrence made his haven. The
group turned out be Sabbat scouts, but instead of being frightened
or repelled by him, the Sabbat were friendly and treated him as a
full equal. Likewise, Terrence found their cause to be both
fascinating and even admirable.

In the last few years, Terrence has become on increasingly good terms
with his Sabbat allies, and they have asked him to attend Camarilla
gatherings to better report on kindred happenings in Detroit to them.
He now feels his loyalties split…on the one hand he owes the
Camarilla his existence, but the Sabbat have always been his friends.
If his association with them is ever found out, the Prince would
certainly have him destroyed.

You have passed some important information to the Sabbat since knowing
them, including the locations of havens, private business holdings,
and even the location of the Prince’s formal court beneath old Fort
Detroit. The Sabbat have also introduced you to some of their mystical
practices like their weekly sermons (known as “esbats”) and you have
witnessed them participate in the vauderie ceremony wherein they share
their vitae with each other. You never joined in on this however, as
you feared the mark of corruption this could leave on your presence.

Recently you have become aware of why the Sabbat wants to know so much
about what the Camarilla is up to. One of your closest contacts in the
Sabbat, Caitlin Harken, has told you that the Sabbat is ready for an
invasion. Their goal is to drive the Camarilla out and make Detroit a
free Sabbat city. While the idea itself is appealing, you doubt that
you would survive the conflict, especially if the other Camarilla
kindred learn that it was you who betrayed them.

Caitlin said that she did not know exactly when the attack would take
place, but the signal would be unmistakable. Over the weekend, the
mortal population has become entangled in a civil rights uprising.
Groups of black men are lighting fires and looting parts of the city.
Is this the sign that the Sabbat has been waiting for?

You have asked another friend to arrange for your safe passage out of
Detroit. You have learned that a Gangrel member of a motorcycle gang
has been sent to find you and take you out of Detroit until the Sabbat
have established itself here.
