The Matter Arcanum

* Initiate of Matter

The Inner Eye (Matter *)
This spell allows the Mage to peer into the materials before her, and see in her minds eye the thousand shapes that lurk under the surface. Instead of forcing her will on the item, the Mage allows herself to be guided in her craft, allowing those unrealized shapes to manifest under her hand. While items of great beauty and utility can be crafted using this rote, the only control a Mage has over what he crafts is his choice of raw materials. Once the process of crafting has begun, the final result is out of his hands.

  Practice:  Unveiling
  Action:  Instant
  Duration: Concentration
  Aspect: Covert
  Cost: None

When using this spell, the Mage simply tells the Storyteller what materials she is using in her casting and gives him a rough idea of what she intends to create. The storyteller decides what item will actually be created, which may not have any relation to what the Mage actually set out to make. In exchange for this loss of control over the crafting process the Mage gains the rote quality on all crafting rolls, allowing him to reroll any dice that come up failures. If the crafting process is interrupted before its completed, the effects of this rote end and cannot be cast again on the same item.
