The Sunscars - Dual-Wielded Death

Level 3 Artifact
Orichalcum Short Daiklaves

A rarity among the Exalted, the Sunscars are a matched pair of shining gold "cunning serpent knives" that were once owned by Gorian Ceremantar. Each blade is a thing of simple, unassuming beauty. The pommel and crossguard of each blade is ornate, each sword telling a slightly different tale that none the less -- if one blade is held up next to the other -- seems to share a certain symmetry of appearance. The blades themselves are exceptionally sharp, vibrantly gold but otherwise utilitarian in appearance despite the obvious skill of the craftsman. When properly attuned to someone harmonized to the Orichalcum, the balance of the blades is best described as sublime and the Daiklaves almost seem to move in ones hands on their own when wielded as a pair.

Despite owning much more powerful weapons, Ceremantar wielded the Sunscars in battle more often than not until he left Creation for Malfaes toward the close of the First Age some few centuries prior to the Usurpation. Why exactly he left the blades behind is unknown, along with many other facts about the weapons. For instance, it's generally assumed that each blade has it's own individual name. But, what are those names?

None alive know.

Some rumors say that learning the secret names of the Sunscars unlocks even greater power in the blades, but as far as Menedraile has been able to determine that is only superstitious nonsense. A more pressing mystery is how exactly he received these blades. He is fairly certain that he didn't have them when he faced the Wyld Hunt a century ago, and he doesn't think that his captor so armed him. But the only other explanation seems to be that somehow the Wyld brough him the blades, or that he somehow dreamed them into being.

The Sunscars4+5+6L+23S *6*

The Sunscars can morph into a pair of Orichalcum Bracers with an expenditure of 1m, as a Simple (Speed 3) action. In contrast, going from Bracers to Blades only requires a diceless reflexive action and no expenditure of motes. If the attuned user has the charm Summoning the Loyal Steel, he may use that charm to instead banish the Sunscars, without needing to actually use the charm.

Regardless of their form, the Sunscars give the benefits of a pair of Orichalcum Hearthstone Bracers, but without an actual Hearthstone setting. This includes a +3 dice bonus to dodge attempts, and +2L damage with all attacks (factored into the above stats).

The Orichalcum bonuses have already been factored into the above statistics. If not fully harmonized, reduce the weapons Accuracy to +4, Defense to +1 and its Rate to 2. The blades can be used unattuned (even by mortals) as Chopping Swords that require Strength ***. The attunement cost above is for both blades; each blade requires a 3 mote commitment.
