Creepy

In the early 80s, a number of Changelings in the Autumn Motley noticed that they were all generally living in close proximity to one another in various parts of Roslindale and Mattapan. Moreover, upon consideration, it seemed that they spent a fairly decent amount of time around each other and seemed to get along famously. Each of them had a good bit in common, sharing a dark sense of humor, a sense for the macabre, and being more than a little "Creepy" on their own. Alice was the first to suggest forming a motley together, but it was Nocturne who ended up doing most of the legwork in the matter and really spreading around the idea. They really only intended to be a small Autumn motley dedicated to keeping their part of Boston safe, investigating its mysteries and spreading the light bit of fear to keep everyone on their toes. Not long after they formed, though, a few other Lost in with similar tastes and priorities quietly inquired if there might be room in the motley for a few other members. Jack Timblefingers was the first to join, with a few others following afterwards. Membership in the motley was a bit of a fad for some of the cities Darklings, Ogres and Beasts during the 80s, but over time everything settled down into a pretty comfortable core membership.

The motley itself is spread out between Mattapan and Roslindale, keeping a small shared hollow and their 'official Creepy HQ' at a small worn old house off Cummings' Avenue near a confluence of three of the cities Cemeteries. From their hollow they have relatively easy access to the various "hotspots" in their home territory, and the Motley are always on the lookout for signs of the Others in their section of town. They do their best to keep the neighborhood children wary of places where there are active gateways or trods, or other dangers, and do their best to know all the little secrets that lurk in their part of town. When you ask the rest of the Freehold what Creepy is involved in, though, the answer you will almost certainly receive is that they are the ones with contacts among the Vampires.

This is more or less true, but it still sometimes annoys the motley. They do a lot of other things, but none the less, they only get much credit (outside the Autumn Court, which is interested in everything else they know about in addition to the Vampire stuff) for their friends in Roslindale and under Savin Hill. All told the motley has, if not exactly a close relationship with the cities undead residents, at least an understanding with them. When the undead who are aware of their relationship come across matters of a distinctly Faerie leaning, they know that they have the option of getting help from Creepy to deal with it. Similarly, Creepy knows that if they need a bit of extra help to deal with a troubling matter on their turf, they can ask the Vampires for a bit of assistance and hope the favor they ask in turn isn't too bad.

Members of the Motley

  • Nocturne (Fairest, Shadowsoul - Autumn Court) seems the odd man out when you look at Creepy. I mean, sure he's Dark, but it looks good on him. That's not an uncommon perception of Nocturne amongst those that meet him the first time. What a nice guy! By the time you've met him a few times, though, the little things start to get you. Is he staring at you when you're not looking? At your wife? Is that a gun tucked away under his arm, or are you just imagining it? Why does he always talk so formal and whats the deal with the way he dresses? You know, I think there might be something wrong with that guy... Nocturne isn't really a member of Creepy because of his Seeming or his Kith, he's a member of the Seeming because he's a member of the Autumn Court. Unlike some in the Leaden Mirror he doesn't just use Fear as a tool. No, he lives fear every second of every day, cultivates it like a gardener working his plot, breathes it in with every breath.
  • Alice (Ogre, Cyclopean - Autumn Court) does more of the day-to-day management for the motley, making sure everyone is okay and arranging the petty little details of whatever Nocturne has on the Motleys agenda when that needs to be done. She's not a leader, and she doesn't want to be, but she's perfectly happy to play a loyal second to Nocturne. When left to her own devices Alice tends to spend time out by the Cemeteries, listening to the Ghosts whisper to her from their graves. She's also the one who spends the most time with the Vampires, and feels that she's real closer to understanding more about their Courts.
  • Jack Timblefingers (Darkling, Tunnelgrub - Summer Court) was once a member of Blood Red, but left that motley on fairly good terms, in favor of trying this thing that Nocturne and Alice were getting started down in Roslindale. He's Summer Court through and through, and generally considers himself in charge of the defense of the Motley, and works with Nocturne to coordinate the efforts the Motley takes with Blood Red to keep an eye out for any possible trouble in the poorer parts of Boston. He's a lot happier with Creepy than he was with the gang, honestly, but he still hangs out with his old friends regularly.
  • Myron Price (Elemental, Manikin - Autumn Court) is widely regarded as Boston's premiere Onieromancer. He doesn't just have a bunch of pledges and a Dream Circle, no. He's a master of the Contracts of Dreams, sure, that goes without saying. He knows a ton of Goblin Contracts related to dreaming, and other secret tricks, some of which are only known to him. He's constantly on the look out for psychics and others with precognitive dreams, and every night he rides another of his Circle, looking for hints to the future. They even say he's trained his own mind to merge into the Wyrd when he sleeps and attract prophecy. If you need help with something related to Dreams, from answers to a few questions to some work on commission, Myron is who you talk to.
  • Verney Underbridge (Ogre, Stonebones - Winter Court) is one of the largest, meanest ugliest looking homeless women you are ever likely to encounter in Roslindale. None of the other bums dare to approach her hidden stash under the pedestrian bridge connecting Roslindale with Hyde Park - no matter if she's there or not, or appears to be gone. Still, she's generally well-liked enough, not afraid to hand out some blankets or help with a fire when it gets cold. Most everyone likes Verney, they just know better than to tick her off. Even the local gangs are a little antsy around the big ole' girl.
  • Kafka (Beast, Skitterskulk - Winter Court) sometimes even freaks out the other members of the Motley, not just for his appearance but for his attitude. For a guy in his condition, he's remarkably outgoing and in your face, always with...well, I guess you call it a smile...and ready to shake your hand. He helps himself from the fridge, is known to overstay his welcome and is always up for you know...whatever. No one is particularly surprised that he's a Used Car salesman with his own lot, and if he looks a little sketchy to his customers, he's at least a friendly enough seeming individual. Come on into his office, would you like a beer? Some pretzels? You sure? You got a real beautiful wife, by the way. A real looker, and whoa momma, what a nice set of cans!
  • Mustang Sally (Darkling, Leechfinger - Autumn Court) is the Baby of the Motley, and has been since she escaped some years ago. Having no desire to go back to High School, Sally spends her days out on the streets, keeping an eye on the gateways and the hedge of her part of town, while making sure that nothing bad has slipped through recently. She makes sure to know all the little legends and myths that pass through the local kids, and always checks them for veracity, just to be on the safe side. She's getting good at spotting the subtle signs of one of the Gentry crossing into the world, and is developing a keen sense for other strange things as well. Such as, for instance, strange behavior in many of the areas rats...
