  • Markuran sits back in his lair, looking at the object on his worktable with an expression of mixed pleasure and fear. He has finally finished it..but is that a good thing? And when..if he dons it..what will happen? Sitting in silence, Marku considers the object on his worktop for a good long time.
  • Cerin finds his way down to Marku's lair, and knocks on the door. "Marku, are you there?"
  • Markuran gives a loud grunt of affirmation, still staring at the item.
  • Cerin steps inside and then stops as he sees the rather strange artifact on the bench "..What is that, Marku?" as he takes himself over to a chest to sit on.

<Markuran> "The Grim Reminder. I've been working on it for some time. Now I wonder why."

The object in question is a twisted parody of a human hand, outlined in gleaming white bone. The material of the gauntlet itself is spiked and wicked, the same dark metal that once made the imprisoning sarcophagus of Markuran's last body. If placed on the big man's arm it would reach halfway up his forearm and make a potent weapon

<Cerin> "Ah." he studies the fist more closely "It's soulsteel..from your sarchophagus?"

<Markuran> "And bone. Yes."

<Cerin> "A reminder for what though?"

<Markuran> "Of what I've been. Of what I might become."

  • Cerin nods "I see."

<Markuran> "It is a mighty weapon. Though I have not yet brought myself to wear it."

<Cerin> "I can see the power within it, yes."

  • Markuran turns away from the smashfist of Soulsteel and bone to face Cerin. "What did you wish to speak with me about?"

<Cerin> "I am in need of your artificing skills, though not such a ...disagreeable result."

  • Markuran smiles slightly. "I'd hope not. What do you need?"

<Cerin> "Sicne I joined your circle, I have becoe rather more noticable than I currently like, and where I plan to visit soon makes this rather ..problematical. So I need something to make me into not-me."

<Markuran> "To be another, or simply to be unseen?"

<Cerin> "To be another. I am quite skilled in being unseen, my skill in being another is less."

<Markuran> "If you do not mind wearing a rather obvious gem, I can think of a manner."

<Cerin> "...How obvious are you talking? Having attention draw to me would not be good."

<Markuran> "Not very obvious, I think, given it's nature. It would split you, allow you to show which face you desire of those you wear."

<Cerin> "Split me?"

<Markuran> "Crystal splits light, white becomes many colors. This will split..you. And you will show the 'color' you wish."

<Markuran> "Show the Hunter and you are a hunter. Show the Bodyguard and you are him."

<Cerin> "Ah. I see." He smiles "Yes, that might be perfect."

  • Markuran nods. "It will take work. And you must do much of it. First, we will need the crystal itself."
  • Cerin nods

<Cerin> "Where do you plan to get it from, I know little of gems."

<Markuran> "We need a special sort of gem. And you really should find it yourself. But some of the Southern volcanos might work."

  • Cerin nods "Perhaps we can go to the South then, and you can point me in the direction of the gems, and then I can retrieve one."

<Markuran> "While we're there we can probably gather some of the other things we need."

  • Cerin nods once more.

<Markuran> "What do you need this artifact for?"

<Cerin> "I plan to travel to Juche. I wish to visit the Imperial Library."

<Markuran> "..why?

<Cerin> "Because aside from certain libraries in various heavenly realms, I cannot think of a bigger one."

<Cerin> "And I can find the library in Juche without having to ask various heavenly entities."

<Markuran> "Though there may be the chance of having your body sent back to us in several small boxes."

  • Cerin nods. "There is that chance whichever library I visit."

<Markuran> "It's slightly more pronounced in Juche. But, if you wish to go.."

<Markuran> "What do you hope to find?"

<Cerin> "Where Ymir came from, something more about the Crysthanthamum, other things."

<Markuran> "Ymir was..you? You think Juche will have records of the Anathema?"

<Cerin> "Not labelled as 'The Life of Ymir.', but they will be there, in the stories and in the books they have on the languages of old. I hope to find where ymir originated from."

<Markuran> "From the womb of his mother.."

<Cerin> "Her. But where in Creation."

<Markuran> "Is this of great importance?"

<Cerin> "It is of great importance to me. The other things I plan to look for there are of a more immediate and more ..general import."

<Markuran> "I would go with you, but then we'd need two gems and I doubt I'd pass for a scholar."

<Cerin> "If I am unmasked, two of us would not make it much easier to escape. I plan to travel with at least one of the Dragonblooded. As their assistant. It will make my job easier I think."

<Markuran> "Have you gotten the spies to do anything useful recently?"

<Cerin> "I sent the twins out to observe the manse Arben mentioned. They should return this evening."

<Markuran> "Good. When do you set out for Juche?"

<Cerin> "As soon as possible."

<Markuran> "It will take time to finish the gem. We can destroy the Manse before you go."

<Cerin> "Capture. A manse is too precious a resource to be destroyed."

<Markuran> "This one may be too dangerous..but if we can, capture."

  • Cerin nods to indicate that yes, it might be tough. "we will know more when the twins return."
