Character Sheet

  • Name: Devika Anand
  • Divine Patron: Sarutahiko (Born)

Paths:

  • Origin: A consort no longer—Raised in a reactionary cult’s created world to support an avatar of Vishnu as one of his chosen companions, she realized her world was a lie and she was more than an accessory to someone else’s story. (Academics, Empathy, Science)
    • Group—Friends who escaped from the Potemkin world. They are few in number but raised to be competent and knowledgeable about the supernatural world.
      • Aditi – Lakshmi was in her distant ancestry. Extremely beautiful and graceful, good at everything but great at nothing in particular. She was the one who stayed behind with Tushar, the Scion of Vishnu the consorts were supposed to support.
      • Esha – No actual divine blood but her grandmother was a very devout priestess of Parvati. She is quiet and shy, a good cook and kind to animals. Possibly a priest in her own right.
      • Jyostana – A sacred tiger who was forced to take human form by means of a curse or artifact or something, we’re not sure, but once she left she figured out how to transform. She was raised as a human in the hopes she would fall in love with Tushar and serve him in battle later in life. Not particularly good at studying but excels at music and sports. Ever since leaving the prep school she has gone extremely punk.
      • Nikita—her father was a kitsune who convinced her mother that he was a divine animal, and the cult believed she had divine blood. She tends toward a more active lifestyle, preferring sports to preening, but sometimes the fox blood wins out.
    • Contacts— Esha—the first to believe in Devika and instrumental in helping the escape. Not sisters by blood, but by choice.
    • Access—Probably some form of shared apartment/resources, they all live together because they can’t imagine life without one another to lean on.
    • Obligation— Marked: The cult is always on the lookout for the group to return to our ‘rightful’ place. Even if they are not omnipresent, they have instilled a certain degree of paranoia in us. One of the followers believes an action will draw attention or already has (rightly or wrongly) and it must be investigated or that follower reassured.
  • Role: Soft-Spoken Lore Keeper—She was the nerdy one, and now she seeks knowledge so that no one will deceive her again. (Occult, Integrity, Medicine)
    • Group—Occult Librarians—Devika was familiar with a real-world association of occultists because the library at her prep school had to order books from all over the world. She hasn’t met a whole lot of them but has an extensive mailing list of occult experts in various fields.
    • Contact—Ms. Petrou—Devika’s college advisor. They’ve only met over video chat but Devika remains in frequent contact with requests for subject matter experts on various occult topics.
    • Access—Occult Database—an online library of occult and divine information
    • Obligation—Don’t you have a deadline coming up?—Technically, Devika never graduated because she ran away halfway through college. The more she leans on teachers and databases, the more likely it is for one of them to remember she has a paper due or needs to sign up for more credits.
  • Pantheon: Are you sure you’re my father?—“Absolutely! Well, pretty sure. No less than 95%. …Do you have a picture of your mother? … … … Yes, definitely!” (Close Combat, Culture, Athletics)
    • Group—Japanese Supernatural Community—Various people and supernatural associated with the Kami have accepted that Devika has been wrongfully poached by the Deva (or at least a cult dedicated to Vishnu, regardless of Vishnu’s feelings on the matter) and are determined to bring her back into the fold. They often watch or check up on her, but are trying not to overwhelm her.
    • Contact— Kaito Yamazaki—Nikita (one of the escapees)’s kitsune father. He has the most reason to interact with Devika and her friends, although the relationship between him and his daughter is extremely strained. He owns and works as the bartender at a small queer/drag bar. He’s extremely androgynous and often wears elaborate (usually women’s) traditional outfits of various cultures while working.
    • Access—Safe houses—in a pinch, Devika can lie low with the people who are looking out for her.
    • Obligation—Pray to your father!—Sometimes Devika is expected to make offerings and prayers to the Kami and in particular figure out how to interact with her father.

Misfortune Mirror ●●●●

Once a beautiful jeweled mirror, now tarnished and chipped. It has been used over the years to seal mischievous spirits, and now the things reflected in its depths are a strange parody of reality.

  • Purview: Chaos
  • Motif: Disordered reflection of reality
  • Knack: Pandemonium: (Spend 1 Legend, scene): You let the kami out. General panic ensues.
  • Knack: Kami Blessing? (Imbue 1 Legend) The bearer calls forth a mirror kami to follow around one person who has been reflected in the mirror. The kami trails the target for as long as the legend is imbued. The bearer bids it to help or harm the target but has limited control over its actions; 1/scene the ST may lower (help) or raise (harm) the target’s difficulty of a roll by 1 due to the interference of the kami.
  • Drawback: Occasionally an unattended kami may cause trouble or escape its bonds. While the kami of the mirror are not directly malicious or deliberately harmful, they inject chaos and panic into the scene, often to the detriment of the bearer (represented by a Complication, Condition, or increased difficulty at the ST’s discretion). The bearer must recapture the kami (generally by some sort of occult roll) to end this effect.
