First Age Incarnation of Merayen

Marthia the White

Prehistory:

  • The second incarnation of her Solar Exaltation (making Merayen the third incarnation); the first Incarnation was Rhean, a great Hero of the Primordial War.
  • Rhean perished toward the middle of the Primordial War, dying beside one of the Primordials known as Aurgelmir, the Shout that Rent Earth and Sky, in so doing allowing it to find peace rather than linger in the Underworld and scar the world with its passing.
    • He was, likely, dragged down into the Void with the dying Primordial.
  • Marthia was a Nurse in the service of Lytek, serving in the Field Hospital, mostly dealing with injured allies of the Solars: mortal warriors and heroes, injured Dragon-Blooded, Dragon Kings, and even some of the Exalted themselves. She was Exalted when Rhean's Exaltation came back 'wrong' and needed immediate attention. The Exaltation went badly, and Marthia was only saved from an untimely death by Lytek's attention.
  • Fought in the doomed battle of Twice Fallen Lajin, holding the city against it's besiegers for over three weeks before the Exalted Host were able to reinforce her small force of Celestial Exalted and 8,000 Dragon-Blooded. The survivors of that hideous battle, even as they drifted apart over the First Age, none the less shared a strong bond reinforced by the deaths of so many and their memories of the horrors they endured.
  • One of the Solar's selected to discuss the Surrender of the Primordials, if this surrender could be safely accepted, and what the options available to the Exalted were. It was ultimately her hard words, both in that meeting and afterward, that led to the Mutilation of the Primordials into the Yozi. After the war, while visiting Malfaes, she ultimately coined the term "Demon", though it was the Twilight's Kali-Ma and Verzelan who popularized that term when their research papers were finally submitting showing just how the surrender, mutilation and imprisonment had changed the Yozi and their component souls.

Early First Age:

  • Spent most of the Ochre Fountain period in Rathess, attempting to assist the Dragon Kings in rebuilding their society. She was known as "The White Mother" to many of the clutchlings born in the early years of the Mandate of Heaven.
  • Also worked with other Zenith Castes, including Black Riotous Thunder and Caerlon Bright-Spear, to build a peacetime religion to glorify the Unconquered Sun and the rest of the Incarna. Many of the rites that had grown out of the Primordial War were kept, but these were mostly adapted from the ancient religion of the Dragon Kings and many Zenith's wished to allow the religion to mature into a truly human religion.
  • Founded the Dragon's Spear, one of many peace-time organizations that the Solar Exalted hammered out of the Dragon-Blooded Host. The Spear was mostly a security and police force in Rathess and surrounding territories, both keeping the peace in the cities and roving the wilderness to deal with left-over threats from the War. A fair segment of the Spear's leadership core was of Gens Hita, Marthia's own Gentes.
  • Joined the Dragon's Spear, many heroes of her own Gentes, a force of Raptok and her own Lunar Mate in hunting down and slaying the Forbidden God, Black Whisper of Forever Twilight, a twisted Primordial Loyalist who had sought to fully extinguish the weakened Dragon King race as punishment for their support of the traitor Gods. She slew the creature herself, using the Ghost-Eating Technique.
  • Personally created, and had the Unconquered Sun himself bless, the mighty Dragon King relic known as the Golden Crosier. She had it presented to the Dragon Kings as a whole in a huge ceremony attended by most of the Celestial Exalted, a fair number of Dragon-Blooded from all the major Gentes, the Unconquered Sun himself and survivors from all four breeds of the Dragon Kings. The Crosier was stored in a sacred temple to the Sun, in the middle of the largest surviving Mosok City-State, on an island that Merayen is convinced is somewhere in the Neck.
  • One of the voices that supported the idea of the Solar Deliberative, largely as a measure to help prevent Solar Infighting and a sentimental desire to not leave Rathess behind for the Blessed Isle. After the Meru War, she spearheaded efforts to find a compromise acceptable to all parties.

Late First age:

  • Died in Meru in the Usurpation, but not from poison. She huddled in one of her ancestral manse, the Dragon-Blooded forcing their way in, and once they broke free she faced them in combat and inflicted grevious harm upon them until one of them managed to bring her down and ultimately kill her. She did this despite understanding, at least partly, why the Dragon-Blooded felt they had to do what they were doing.

Miscellaneous Memories

  • Once stood in the plains just a little northwest of present day Madaan, overcome with emotion and otherwise introspective. She was on her way to deal with some great threat or enemy, and the prospect frightened her - or would have, were she capable of feeling fear. It is likely that this referred to...
  • ...Marthia's conflict with a First Age Twilight known as "Kalid-ma", a guileless Demonologist and Sorcerer of Terrible power, who had unleashed a horror from Malfaes upon Meru to cover up her theft of several treasures from the city. Marthia ultimately won the conflict, killing Kalid-ma and tearing down her manse.
