Backgrounds
Allies (Prince Rodarl & High Autocrat Dunlan): **
When one of the men left guarding the palace escorted Jackal and Merayen before the Prince of Mar, he didn't much like them. He didn't trust them either, and the word "Anathema" rolled off his tongue bitterly. But ever since the Palace Guard had killed his second cousin and placed a crown on his head, Amanan Rodarl has had little choice in certain matters, and when the Forsaken promised to save his Kingdom and its people, the Prince felt compelled to trust them. The High Autocrat only met Jackal several weeks later, and though he was suspicious, he knew that this man had saved many of his own people.

In the seasons since the final battle of the Civil War, Jackal has led the armies of Budan and Mar (occasionally assisted by Maadan's forces), fighting back opportunistic invaders who smelled weakness after the terrible battles. Though there have been hardships all around, in time, a powerful circle of friendship was formed and made all the stronger by those troubles. Indeed, despite his own efforts to repair the wounds between the two Kingdoms, Menedraile has admitted on many occasions that were it not for Jackal then "Budan" and "Mar" would not now be "Budan Mar". Neither men are Exalted, but both -- even after the Civil War that did so much damage to their lands -- powerful individuals, with great wealth, lots of influence and a amount of spirit.

Command: '**
Jackal has a force of 125 foot soldiers, mostly these are troops recruited from the Sarine Valley or on loan from Madaan but there are also a few volunteers from Budan Mar or even other parts of the Hundred Kingdoms. If assembled in full, this constitutes a Magnitude 3 force with a Drill of 4. Additional statistics for these troops can be found on Alliance Units. It should be noted that this includes only those troops that specifically serve Jackal, and which are loyal to him over and above any other considerations. The Alliance, as a whole, has access to additional units in times of need.

Contacts: ***
You've known a great many people over your 47 years, from the gutters of Nexus to the various states of the Hundred Kingdoms. Most of these acquaintances are in mercenary companies, or the armies of various nations. You're good friends with the commander of the Black Lion Company, Verin Vos, a former officer of the Red Rook Company who formed a Company of his own after you disbanded the Rooks. You've also got inroads in the forces of both Madaan and Budan Mar, including General Ione of Madaan and General Nallas Briane of Mar. But, in general, you know many people in various armies all over the Hundred Kingdoms and in most of the Mercenary Companies that operate in the Scavenger Lands.

Cult: *
There's a small shrine to you in Mar, and an even smaller one in Budan. Many of the soldiers of both cities pay it visits, infrequently, and at least one Priest (a crippled solider named Dukanth that you've met; nice fellow) lives full-time on the generosity of your worshipers. You've even been told by Merayen that you apparently have a few sacred temple prostitutes. Or the equivalent. All together, this worship isn't much, and only nets you an additional point of Willpower every morning when you awaken.

Resources: **
While you've replaced some more of your gear, and otherwise spent some of your money as you were, you're still not much richer than you were when you disbanded the Red Rook Company and retired to a small house in the Village of Nulam. Oh, sure, if you count the priceless artifacts in your Panoply then you're richer than many in the Guild but you could never sell such things - even if you found someone to buy them. When you have time to yourself, and aren't enjoying the hospitality of the rulers of Budan Mar, you live somewhat humbly in Nulam. You have a new Horse, though, and certainly live better than most peasants.

Manse: ***
Two days travel through the Wilderness from Nulam, the Dragon Lines converge on a massive tree that is easily as thick and stout as a small house and reaches up further than any other tree in the forest. A small green resin door, only able to be opened by those skilled with Essence, is tucked away near the forests floor and leads into a comfortable if wondrous interior. The tree-house includes a large foyer, a staircase that leads up to four other rooms and to the balcony atop the tree that overlooks the Forest and serves as the Hearthstone chamber of the Manse.

Exaltation
Jackal exalted roughly four months after Schuyler, a little under a year ago. Trudging through the Wilderness outside the Village, tracking the path of a young boy that often came to visit him (hoping to hear stories of glorious places and epic battles) and had not returned after a trip to gather herbs in the Moaning Lands. Jackal managed to make it into the Shadowland without incident, finding signs of the boys (including the herbs he'd been gathering) but no real signs of a struggle. Suspecting what had happened, Jackal decided to wait until Nightfall and see what could be done rather than leaving the youth to his fate. So it was that, under a alien sky with strange unknown stars, Jackal wandered into the Underworld and sought after the trail of a living boy that had taken the same path a night ago.

The trek was a difficult one, but Jackal managed hold himself together through the cool air and the dead landscape that surrounded him, ignoring the ghostly farmers that lined the area and watched him as he wandered by. Eventually, he arrived at a small township where the Boy had apparently taken refuge -- finding the lad being held by a number of powerful Ancestors within, who sought to add another of the living to their collection. This hope died on their chill hands when Jackal Exalted with the power of the Risen Sun, however, his sword slashing out at the spectres and his pure golden light frightening away any others.

The two wandered back to town, ghosts gathering to watch but not daring to disturb the glowing figure. As the Dawn crested over the Shadow, they wandered back into Creation, and toward Nulam.
