Other Backgrounds

Mostly, for now, this is a placeholder page for backgrounds both made-up and stolen from various sources. All of the Backgrounds below will be written from a Second Age perspective, based on the perspective of a Solar unless another perspective is more appropriate. I.e., the version of Connections that eventually takes its place below will be designed and written for a Solar to take it. I'll add more detail to this page, and probably more backgrounds, as I need them in game.

Note, the only way to gain backgrounds in play is to earn them through in-game actions. You neither have to, nor can, spend XP for these bonuses.

"Errata'd" Backgrounds

Liege (Abyssals only)
As a small bonus to this Background, it gives more free dots which can be spent as Abyssal Command, Allies, Artifact, Manse, Mentor or Spies. The Deathlord can choose to revoke these background dots at whim, or give them to the Abyssal semi-permanently, making them actual background dots. Note, Liege still counts as Backing, Mentor and Resources while resulting in the character having less and less freedom as the background rises in value. The actual number of free dots a given Abyssal receives depends on the esteem his Deathlord holds him in and is outlined below:

TraitEffects
XYour Deathlord doesn't trust you with any extra toys.
*You have a single dot of floating backgrounds, so long as you continue to please your Master.
**You have three dots of floating backgrounds, whatever your Deathlord thinks you'll need most in the field.
***You have five dots of floating backgrounds, and some leeway getting them depending on your needs.
****You have seven dots of floating backgrounds, and can more or less exchange how these dots are distributed at whim.
*****You have nine dots of floating backgrounds, and are more or less trusted to manage these on your own.
None of your floating backgrounds can have more than [Liege + 1] dots.

New & "Borrowed" Backgrounds

Wealth
In this fallen age, Wealth is mostly to be found in the hands of the Scarlet Dynasty. The Scarlet Empress, prior to her disappearance, was the only one in Creation to actually have five dots in this background. The heads of House Ragara has Wealth 4, and most of the other Houses can manage Wealth 3.

TraitEffects
XPoor by Dynastic sources, you still live a life that would look good to most people in the Threshold. Resources **.
*Average by dynastic standards, but still, well off for the average person. This is equivalent to Resources ***.
**An elder of the Dynasty, well-regarded and with more money than he knows what to do with. Resources ****.
***The head of a major dynastic house, such as Sesus or Cathak. Resources *****.
****The head of a wealthy house, such as Ragara or Cynis. Can make multiple Resources 5 purchases.
*****The Scarlet Empress. Can make effectively unlimited Resources 5 purchases.
