Mask of the White Wolf (•••)

This simple looking Wolf-mask of colorfully painted papier-mâché is deceptive in its appearance, looking as if it was created as a school project by a slightly artistic elementary school child for his art teacher. Who knows, maybe it was? Maybe the artist that constructed it was taken from her home, dragged through the thorns by one of the Gentry, the mask falling from her hand and drifting away from the path. Maybe it lingered there, its features growing slightly more defined and feral, for years and years until it was happened upon by a Changeling who guessed at its power and later sold it at a Goblin Marketplace for some different treasure.

Whatever the story behind the Mask of the White Wolf, it remains a potent item, drawing down into its bearer some of the cunning of Faerie - or perhaps summoning it up from some inner resting place. When activated, the bearers personality shifts all at once, from her stance to the slightest mannerisms.

The character reassigns extra dots in her Resolve attribute to raise her Manipulation or Composure scores. This reassignment cannot lower the characters Resolve rating lower than 1, however. All dots of Empathy vanish, and can be shifted to Investigation, Intimidation, Socialize/Streetwise (choose one when you first activate the Mask), or Subterfuge as the bearer wishes depending on her need. The Changeling can reassign these substitutions once assigned by spending a point of Glamour and taking an Instant action. Lastly, the character gains a bit of insight into her current situation, able to make a reflexive Wits+Investigation roll to resolve some sort of conundrum or puzzle that has been bothering her. This roll gains a bonus if the story the character is involved in is particularly dark and tragic.

Mien: While the item remains a papier-mâché mask in the form of a wolf, the wolfs features become much more pronounced and almost realistic. Almost as if instead of a constructed mask, this is instead the face of a Winter Wolf that happened to be made out of papier-mâché.

Drawback: The characters personality remains shifted for the rest of the scene, during which she retains her Resolve of 1 and an Empathy of 0. She also replaces her Vice with either Lust or Pride (chosen when the Mask is first activated). The character must indulge her new vice in some fashion during the scene, and often does such many times, regaining willpower as normal from the indulgence. While the Mask is active, the Changeling gains no benefit from fulfilling her Virtue, finding such generally unsatisfying.

Catch: The character must wear the Mask, not simply have it in her possession. This makes the experience much more vivid and jarring, and counts as a Breaking Point for any Changeling with a Clarity of Three or Higher. Mortals and other Supernaturals have to make a Morality (or the equivalent) roll to avoid gaining the Irrationality derangement, followed by the Multiple Personality derangement upon a second failure.
