The Dreaming Pledge

Every skilled Onieromancer is, by necessity, skilled at the crafting of pledges - if only within a narrow range. The simple Pledge of Horn and Bone is only one example of a Dreaming Pledge, and a very simple one at that. Some of the options presented on this page allow a truly potent Onieromancer to achieve much more potent effects than those that simply dabble.

Dreaming Aspects, Advanced

Boons and Durations

  • Subtle is a boon only usable with the Dreaming pledge task. It allows the onieromancer to sanctify a simplified variant of the Pledge of Horn and Bone using only the most simplified of wordings. The only requirement for the wyrd to empower a pledge with this boon is that the Changeling somehow communicate that he gain accesses to the subjects dreams, and the subject to acquiesce in some (even informal) fashion. A pledge with this boon can have no tasks other than the Dreaming task, and has no sanction. They thus last no longer than a week. Lesser (+1).
  • Reposed is a boon only usable with the Dreaming pledge task, which also requires a Greater Alliance between the parties so bound. It is often incorporated into Motley pledges, and allows all those so bound into a dreaming pledge to dispense with the usual requirements of entering one anothers dreams. All parties can now enter the dreams of another party in this pledge without requiring meditation within the hedge; you simply have to lay down, close your eyes and drift off to sleep. The expenditure of a point of glamour is still required, however. Medial (+2).

Note: The dreaming boons presented are supported via either Sanctions or Tasks, as any other pledge aspect, but often have unique restrictions limiting their use. Some require additional aspects, or prohibit them, while others have condition effects depending on the exact details of the pledge. Some of these aspects might be gifted by Entitlements, or require advanced learning represented by Merits. Please read the description of any new aspect in full.

Tasks and Sanctions

  • Dream Circle is an advanced type of Dreaming task, which allows the onieromancer to take part in many more dreaming pledges (Horn and Bone pledges, or more advanced applications constructed with additional aspects below). In every way, this task aspect functions as the Dreaming task, save that it requires the investment of one permanent point of Willpower. Any future Dream Circle pledges, constructed identically to the first, are considered "invested" in this same initial expenditure. All dream circle pledges must have either the Reciprocal or the Glamour Hungry sanction. Greater (-3).
  • Reciprocal is a sanction only usable with the Dreaming or Dreaming Circle pledge tasks. It causes the Gate of Horn and Bone to flow both ways - the onieromancer can enter into the dreams of the one with whom he made the pledge, but the subject of the pledge can also flow back into the onieromancers dreams. Sometimes one is simply the visitor in the dreams of the other, and other times the dream imagery merges and the dream is shared between them more fully. In a Dream Circle pledge the dreams of all those so linked flow together, to the point that disparate members of the circle will likely recognize one another if they should meet. Lesser (-1).
  • Glamour Hungry is a sanction only usable with the Dreaming or Dreaming Circle pledge tasks. A pledge with this sanction is greedy for glamour. These dreams cannot be harvested for glamour by the onieromancer, and in addition, every month he must spend one glamour or the pledge fades away and the onieromancer loses his connection to the subjects dreams. In a Dream Circle pledge the onieromancer cannot harvest glamour from any of the dreamers in the circle and must spend one glamour per pledge to keep the circle functional every month. Medial (-2).

Note: The dreaming sanctions presented offset either Boons or the Pledges Duration, as any other pledge aspect, but often have unique restrictions limiting their use. In particular, no Dreaming Sanction can accompany a pledge that doesn't have a Dreaming task of some kind - either the basic Dreaming task, or a variant thereof. Most of these Sanctions should also be subject to Storyteller review in any pledge that has Tasks that aren't strictly related to dreaming.
