the Devilshroud

Level 3 Artifact
Orichalcum Reinforced Buff Jacket

At first glance, there is little to distinguish the Devilshroud from any of the hundreds of examples of a "Reinforced Buff Jacket" made for a First Age Terrestrial. The armor plates that gleam here and there are a gold-orichalcum alloy, most certainly, and the material of the jacket itself seems to be a dark grayish-black hide of some nether beast from the depths of Malfaes. But, none of this was particularly unusual. No, what makes the Devilshroud unique (and thus worthy of being part of Gorian Ceremantar's panoply) is the intricate chain of spells that have been cast into every little piece of the jacket. Every single orichalcum thread sewn into the jacket was blessed by an Elemental, the Hide itself has no fewer than 7 or so spells imbued in it, and the Ceremantar himself cast the crowning Solar Circle enchantment that afflicts the breastplate itself.

Each spell wove in with the others, caught up in the intricate design intended to do just that, until the end result was greater than the sum of its parts. Elegant cratsmanship met masterful sorcery, and the two blended into something that was both and neither.

Menedraile is aware that this artifact is much more powerful than it currently appears. When it adorned the Eclipse Caste whose exaltation Menedraile now bears in the First Age, it was as powerful an artifact as any owned by a Child of the Sun. Yet until he is able to master the strange sorcerers still dormant in the Devilshroud its power will continue to be... muted. Also, much like with the Sunscars, there is the matter of just where this item came from. He certainly wasn't imprisoned with it. At least, as far as he can ascertain.

The Devilshroud is, at it's base, a Level 5 Artifact, but much of it's power is currently dormant. For the moment, it merely monitors and regulates Menedrailes health and conditions. This gives him a bonus success on any Survival roll to survive in hostile environments, automatically halts bleeding without any action on the Exalt's part and roughly quadruples his natural healing rate (this doesn't stack with other, similar, increases). The bearer also gains 5 additional Dying wound levels over and above those granted by his Stamina.

The wearer can spend a Willpower to remain active while Incapacitated, though this fills one of his dying levels. At the end of the scene, the Solar collapses, unless he's somehow healed the damage.

Lastly, the Devilshroud has a fastener just above the neck that serves as a Hearthstone setting.

The above statistics already include the Orichalcum bonuses. If not fully harmonized with the Orichalcum, reduce Soak to 7L/10B, and Hardness to 5L/5B.
