Jade Drug Paraphernalia
This ornate bejeweled hookah is mostly made of glass, some bronze, and notable amounts of blue, green and red jade. It is beautiful enough to easily fit in amongst the possessions of a wealthy Dynast, particularly those of House Cynis, and is based on an ancient design that dates back to the very early First Age. Indeed, some have suggested that the roots of this artifact even go back to the Primordial War itself or that the Artifact was in fact first crafted by the Gods rather than one of the Exalted. Though very old, the design itself is very efficient and unlikely to be improved upon (though, naturally, more powerful examples exist).
The user begins the process by spending a single mote, heating the red jade evenly and without producing any flame, such that the drug held within isn't burned and there's no real production of ash. The green and blue jade aid the production of rich and divinely intoxicating smoke, while filtering out or rendering inert the most harmful aspects of the drug. As a result, positive effects of the experience are increased while negative effects are greatly diminished. Even highly dangerous intoxicants can be used, with some level of safety, with this device. Some Exalts, particularly those of House Cynis (and First Age Solars) have even found numerous drugs with many different properties that would be lethal if smoked with any mortal device. Other Exalts simply enjoy smoking burnt tar or ink fumes or some other interesting but dangerous compound without worrying about poisoning themselves.
While most Exalts can avoid addiction, even when using such a device as this, mortals can seldom muster up such wherewithal. Thankfully, in order to use the Jeweled Hook an Essence Channeler of some sort would have to supply the essence.
The exact effects of this artifact vary greatly, depending on the drug being used. None the less, it can purify just about anything and make it safe to inhale while at the same time vastly increasing the "mind opening" qualities of whatever is being inserted into the Hookah. It's also possible, with a slight bit of effort, to modify the Hookah into a breathing apparatus allowing the user to safely breathe otherwise deadly air -- with the expected drawback of getting slightly high. This use of the Hookah requires a commitment of 1 mote.
