Dragon-Blooded Awareness

Thematics: The Elemental Dragon of Earth is passive and patient, and his sleeping mind touches upon everything that the Element of Earth touches upon. And, as any Child of Pasiap will tell you, Earth touches upon all things. Water and Wood are both held by the Earth, while Fires burn upon it and even the Air rests upon a solid foundation and flirts with the tops of mountains. Thus all things, in time, come to the awareness of the Sleeping Dragon. And his Children.

All-Encompassing Earth Sense

The Earth watches over its children and warns them of the hostile intentions of those that would do them harm. A Dragon-Blooded may activate this charm to automatically succeed on a Perception + Awareness roll to resist an enemy attempting to reestablish surprise in combat, or to spot an ambush before the hidden attackers can launch any unexpected attacks. The effects of this charm allow the Dragon-Blooded enough warning, and are communal enough, that anyone traveling with the Child of Pasiap is also forewarned against ambush and alert to attempts to slip into the shadows.

Channel (Cost: 3m): The Dragon-Blooded removes the unexpected quality from attacks for as long as he maintains this channel. The Dragon-Blooded must an intimate connection with the Earth for this Channel to work; his feet must rest upon the earth, grass , the lowest floor of a building, or similar. This channel ends immediately if the Solar goes out to sea or ascends to the Second Floor, and can only be reactivated when the Terrestrial is once again in touch with the Earth.

This charm is actually a series of charm, one for each of the Five Elements, which gives the Dragon-Blooded a "sixth sense" related to his specific element. This extended awareness extends out to (Awareness x 25) yards, and requires an (Intelligence + Awareness) roll for the Terrestrial to make sense of. A single success provides basic awareness as described below, while additional Threshold successes either provide additional detail or add to the character's effective Awareness rating for the purposes of determining range. Only the version of this charm associated with your element is favored; even Earth Aspects pay non-favored costs if they attempt to learn non-aspect versions of this charm.

  • Voices on the Wind (Air): The Child of Mela can hear the faintest traces of words echoing through the air, allowing him to eavesdrop on conversations at seemingly impossible distances. Each allocated threshold success allows the Dragon-Blooded to perfectly follow one additional conversation, while successes allocated to distance double the range of this charm rather than adding additional Awareness dots.
  • Feeling the Dragon's Bones (Earth): So long as the Dragon-Blooded is touching the ground (see above for a definition), he can sense anything else that is similarly in contact with the Element of Earth. This charm has double the normal range when the Exalted is underground or when extending ones senses 'down', and is perfectly suited to mapping out subterranean complexes or cave systems.
  • Unnamed Fire Sense (Fire): The Dragon-Blooded may co-locate his awareness to any Fire located within range, gaining the ability to use all of his senses from this new location without any outward sign. Additional threshold successes allow the Fire Aspect to co-locate himself to an additional fire within range, and fully process all of his scattered focal points without difficulty.
  • Unnamed Water Sense (Water): When fully immersed in water, the Sable Dragon can sense everything else similarly immersed to within three times the normal range granted by this charm and perfectly navigate underwater. This charm also functions when the Dragon-Blooded is nearly near a body of water, but it's range is then normal. This is often used to detect nautical threats while the Terrestrial remains on his ship's deck.
  • Breath of Life (Wood): The Emerald Dragon gains an abiding awareness of all living things around him, and their general nature, allowing him to tell the difference between an infestation of cockroaches and a sweatshop filled with children. The Exalt, also, gains a focused awareness of those twisted by the Wyld and any of the Undead who so pervert the natural cycle. Due to the need to filter so much information, this charm's range is only (Awareness x 15) yards.

If mechanical rigor is needed, assume that these senses can provide two bonus successes to a relevant roll that could benefit from them. Such, as a Earth Aspect attempting to find his way out of a maze or a Wood Aspect using Breath of Life to find a hidden thief. At Essence 4, the Dragon-Blooded may purchase this charm a second time. This extends the range to (Awareness x 1000) yards, or (Awareness x 600 yards) for Breath of Life. The information gained at this extended range is vague, however, unless threshold successes are attributed to increase the fidelity.
