The Ghosts of Boston

What follows is to be a description of some of the hauntings and apparitions that might be discovered by Mary Apperson through her investigations of the city. Some of these hauntings can be found noted in Pauls' notes, though such notes are incomplete and sometimes the spirit is found to have moved on since the record was initially made. Others are discovered through rumor, hearsay and the following of various urban legend. Lastly, of course, some are simply blundered upon. It should also be noted that while many spirits linger in Twilight, only the ones that are noteworthy in some fashion will be noted here.

Dorchester

Just across the road from the Apperson home, the Cedar Grove Cemetery was founded in 1867. Home to the final resting places of more than forty five thousand people, having sold over nineteen thousand headstones, like many cemetery's Cedar Grove is home to only a few ghosts (but considerably more phantoms).

  • Allison Bristol (b. 1911, d. 1953), a childhood friend of Mary's, went on to live a full life and raise two children. She died at forty two of tuberculosis, having seen many of her family and friends die in war and become a matron of the community. Her funeral was widely attended, and her spirit remained tethered to the community that she'd been a part of in life and to her gravestone in Cedar Grove. She remains still, watching over her descendants and acting as the Matron of Cedar Grove, watching over the spirits that are drawn there.
  • Robert Dawson (b. 1939, d. 1946), one of the strongest ghosts in the cemetary, hovers somewhat between a ghost and a wisp. Killed by a pair of near feral dogs, Robert haunts most of the cemetary and can even range a few streets away from it if given reason, which usually means that someone has roused his anger. Usually quiet and playful, often running through the Cemetery at night or seen playing on the Tram that runs through Cedar Grove, Robert can go dark if he feels threatened or unduly upset. He treats Allison Bristol as his mother figure.
  • The Conductor (b. 1903, d. 1973), haunts the Cedar Grove Train Station and the tracks that go through the Cemetery, occasionally having conversations with passengers who find themselves alone within the station or on a train car toward the evening. Born Montgomery James Rhymes, The Conductor had worked on the Boston Area trains since he was a young man, even remaining in Dorchester when it was not a very safe place to be. He perished in an unsolved cold case gang-related murder in 1973, and his spirit lingers to this day.
