The Scene (both halves)
In the aftermath of the Year With No Spring, the Spring Court was in something close to disarray. While the Summer and Autumn Court had shouldered most of the fighting, the Spring Court had taken part as well and also suffered from persecution in the initial months of the conflict. The Scene was formed in 1973 by Leopold King (mostly known as "Leo") as a reaction to the Motleys that had split apart or left the city - and as an attempt to lift the spirits of the Court and assist with the resumption of seasonal rule. With the help of friends Ferguson Walsh and Madragora, the young motley found its feet quickly and proved instrumental in the recovery of the freeholds spirits.
Throughout the 70s and the 80s, the Scene was the face of the Spring Court throughout most of Boston. When they more or less took control of the Spring Revel in '86, it was more of a recognition of their overall influence over the social aspects of the freehold than any actual power shift. Then everything changed on February 3rd, 1995, when a small single-engine plane crashed on approach to Boston's Logan International Airport - Leopold King was among the three aboard who perished. The death was both sudden and unexpected, with many blaming the crash on the death curse of one of Bostons' covens, which the Scene had only recently gotten into a conflict with. The motley went into an immediate period of mourning, gradually fading into a power struggle between the two most powerful personalities in the motley.
Ferguson's Faction
- Ferguson Walsh (Beast, Hunterheart - Spring Court) is a sly cool cat, considered by many within and without the motley to be Leo's "little brother". Ever since his escape from Faerie, Fergy has enjoyed living the good life. He lives in a veritable mansion, has more money than most any member of the freehold, throws the best parties, scores the finest drugs and has an enviable amount of sex. That said, while this cat certainly likes to think otherwise, he just can't quite fill the boots left behind by Leopold King. He freely admits that his biggest mistake since Leo's death was his managing this entire situation with Alicia, which he blames solely on himself.
- Madragora (Fairest, Draconic - Spring Court) is one of the most connected members of the Spring Court, right up there with Jordan and Sky, and widely considered one of the most attractive Changelings in the entire Freehold. Perfectly androgynous, only a few actually know Madragora's gender - is she female, or is he of the male persuasion? Fiercely bisexual, and not at all interested in betraying the secret to just anyone, Madragora continues to do as Madragora has always done - know the people worth knowing, do the things worth doing, and let everything else slide.
- Melinda (Fairest, Flowering - Spring Court) still does lead vocals for Larry's band, having both a beautiful singing voice and generally being an excellent way to get asses in seats listening to them. That said, Melinda is not generally a musician - she sings what Larry gives her, and enjoys the attention, but doesn't actually have her heart in it. Much more of her attention goes to sleeping around, scoring the occasional fix, and generally doing whatever she wants without really caring overly much about who she hurts in the process. She rejoined Fergy's faction after "the betrayal", with Lolita's blessing, and has still not forgiven Alicia for all the madness.
- Karait (Beast, Coldscale/Venombite - Spring Court) can usually be found in a quiet corner of some party, coiled with a drink in hand, quietly content to watch all that transpires and only taking action when roused. More than a few are unnerved by Karait's almost fae sense of poise and aloofness - most simply write it off as a mark of his serpentine nature. A much more common source of gossip is the nature of his relationship with Madragora; friendship or more, and if so, what does that suggest (if anything) about that ones gender? Karait himself is (naturally) silent on the subject.
- Inez Durnley (Darkling, Tunnelgrub - Spring Court) was adopted into the Motley after her first was Exiled from Boston in '92, and is widely considered to have remained in Ferguson's faction due to a feeling of obligation more than anything else. Quietly relieved that things are settling down between the two sides, Inez was right behind Fergy in welcoming Melinda back and is somewhat disappointed (but not surprised) that the old Motley didn't get all back together again.
Lolita's Faction
- Lolita (Wizened, Artist - Spring Court) spends most of her time in her gallery, engaged in one of painting, sculpting or pottery. The rest of her time is spent at some party with her boyfriend, Larry, or on the drums for Larry's band, or off doing her own thing. Unlike her boy, Lol doesn't generally seem to have anything against Ferguson and the others - when on her own, she associates with "the other half" just fine. She's stepped up to the lead spot in the motley since Alicia's disgrace, shutting down any objections on Larry's point with a silent glare. She's more than willing to make peace with Fergy, but prefers being on her own for now, and isn't interested in reconciliation.
- Larry Smile (Fairest, Dancer - Spring Court) is generally considered to be a member of Alicia's faction by default, as everyone in the Freehold know that he and Ferguson never ever got along. The two have come to blows on a few occasions, with a constant low level of friction. A lot these conflicts had to do with Ferguson coming across as a do-nothing playboy, whereas Larry is an artist and musician who actually contributes something to society (that's how Larry would put it anyway). While he and Fergy have never gotten along, they've agreed to just live and let live since "the incident". Larry has taken a backseat in the motley to his girlfriend, quietly accepting some of the responsibility for how bad things got for a while there.
- Alicia Dimble (Elemental, Waterborn - Spring Court) is generally considered something of an idealist, and was well-known as a favored pupil and close friend of Leopold prior to his death. Since the Hedge Duel that saw her break her oath to the Motley, Alicia has lost a bit of esteem in the eyes of the Court for letting her anger get the better of her. She's a bit bitter about the experience but tries not to hold a grudge. Mostly, she wants to get over it, and is actually kind of grateful to let Lolita handle things for a while. None of what happened is what Leo would have wanted, and she realizes that now.
- Duke Percy (Ogre, Cyclopean - Winter Court) is the sole member of the Winter Court to have ever joined the Scene, as well as one of the very few Entitled changelings in the entire city of Boston. Large, rugged, sporting a leather jacket and a few days stubble, Percy pulls off 'renegade biker' very well and is one of the few men that can manage to wear an eye patch without looking like idiots. He left the motley with Melinda, was rebuffed by Fergy when he attempted to join his motley, and has since come crawling back to Lolita - who let him join the motley, but only if he swore an oath keep his behavior with his oathbound sisters in check. He's chalked the entire experience up as a learning experience and seems glad to still be a member of the motley at all.
When Augustina reassigned the planning and preparations for the Spring Revel in '97, due to the Scene being unable to put aside their differences long enough to give the effort the attention it deserved, the motley simply split apart into two factions. Each was quite bitter with the other, blaming them on their failure and jockeying for influence. While Ferguson's faction benefited from money and a slightly better claim to direct succession, Alicia was recognized as having grown quite close to the motleys late leader prior to his death and previously had a slight advantage in manpower. Of the two, though, well, Alicia took the entire thing a good bit more seriously and finally just lost it when Fergy kept digging and digging in hopes of bringing the leader out in her. Rather than a leader, Alicia showed herself as a having a bit of a vindictive temper. In the aftermath of the fallout, Melinda split from her faction back to Fergies and Lolita has assumed command of the friendly opposition (as she calls it). All signs show the bitter divide becoming less bitter but just as divided.
