Callings (& Knacks)

  • Warrior 3
    • Tempered (Heroic): When you wear no armor, you are considered to have the Armored Tag. This benefit stacks with the increased difficulty of the inflict damage Stunt granted by any other armor you wear when you fight lesser foes (minor characters, or anyone a Tier lower than you).
    • Master of Weapons (Heroic): At the beginning of the session, choose one of your weapons to be your favored weapon. When you use your favored weapon, add a number of additional Tag points to it up to your Warrior Calling. These do not have to fit the weapon’s existing profile: A sword can be made to strike at Far range, for example. Spend Momentum to switch the benefit to another weapon. Negative cost Tags cannot be purchased with this Knack.
    • Death by Teacup (Heroic): When you use an improvised weapon, it becomes as deadly as anything designed for the job. It takes on the profile of any existing weapon of a similar size or shape: A teacup becomes brass knuckles or a punch dagger; a shard of glass becomes a knife; a thrown shoe becomes a throwing hatchet, etc. It must appropriately fit something of a similar size and shape, as described in the examples listed. This benefit lasts until you no longer hold the object, or until it breaks, or until you are no longer using the object with any Warrior Skill — whichever comes first. In the case of thrown objects, the benefit extends until impact. A hurled shoe strikes with the force of a tomahawk and then becomes ordinary footwear when it hits the ground. This is compatible with Master of Weapons, though still adheres to the set limitations.
    • Army of One (Immortal): When you fight outnumbered, you do not take any penalties or increased difficulty that being outnumbered would cause. You gain half your Legend, round up as an Enhancement to all attacks so long as there are more opponents present than you and your band. When fighting a greater force as a Feat of Scale, invoke your Legendary Title and imbue Legend instead of spending it.
  • Leader 2
    • Perfect Poise (Heroic): You cannot be shaken by panic or fear unless it is from another supernatural source — in which case, you gain 2 Enhancement to resist it (such as making Clash of Wills rolls) that applies before you roll. You also gain 1 Enhancement to all Social rolls involving grace, poise, or composure, and to keep a “poker face.” This also applies before you roll.
    • Inspirational Aura (Heroic): When you take charge of a group, roll Knack Skill. For every two successes rolled, reduce the Difficulty of all actions taken by the group you command by 1. You can inspire a number of people equal to her Leadership + Leader Calling, or can spend a point of Momentum to apply this to a much larger group, multiplying that number by 10 for each Momentum spent. The decrease in difficulty does not apply to you, though while you are inspiring others, you gain 2 Enhancement to apply to social rolls involving leadership, and any Stunts you may have gained from Knacks.
    • Not Today, Friends (Immortal): When you command others or stir the hearts of many on a huge Scale (commanding an entire army, calling a whole city to your aid), imbue a point of Legend, rather than spending, to invoke your Legendary Title as a Feat of Scale.
  • Liminal 1
    • Trouble With A Capital T (Heroic): Trivial characters automatically give the user a wide berth, preventing them from being mobbed or suffering any Complications from being in a crowd. This effect can be broken for characters if the Scion willingly interacts with a character (asking the girl for a dance) or through a Clash of Wills. If combat breaks out, mooks have to come at the character one by one.

Purviews (& Boons)

  • Tianming: Mastery of the celestial bureaucracy leads to mastering the earthly as well.
    • Innate Power: You ignore all Complications from bureaucratic delay, corrupt officials, missing paperwork, long lines at the DMV, or similar obstacles that impede the right functioning of bureaucratic and official institutions.
  • Booze: Mastering the arts of being drunken and becoming drunken.
    • Innate Power: When you get drunk (as per Condition), you name a Physical or Social goal. You suffer no Complications while working towards this goal and instead have +1 Enhancement. While not working towards the goal, you still suffer Complications till sober.
    • Boozey Magic: You can mix magically good drinks.
  • Epic Dexterity: impossible speed, agility, and precision…
    • Innate Power: So long as you continue to move towards a destination, you walk, run, or leap with effortless grace. Any surfaces solid or liquid hold your weight as if you weighed no more than a feather, and you may effortlessly scale or descend vertical surfaces without a need for a handhold.
  • Epic Stamina: Impossible toughness, endurance, and resistance to toxins and diseases.
    • Innate Power: You are immune to poison and disease unless they come from a source whose Legend is equal or greater than yours, and never face Complications or risk death from hunger, thirst, or exhaustion.
    • Adamant Body (Unarmed Attacks) (imbue 1 legend, one scene): Your skin becomes as hard as adamant, granting you +1 soft armor and the benefit of the Resistant armor tag (p. 145 Origin) against a specific type of damage, such as bullets, fire, or acid. When you purchase this boon, choose one kind of damage that you are naturally resistant to. You can use it to resist the chosen damage type without having to imbue Legend in it.
  • Epic Strength: Inhuman strength and the ability to put it to proper use.
    • Innate Power: You have +1 Scale for purposes of lifting, breaking, or carrying large objects. You can use Strength in place of Presence for intimidation, seduction, or building Bonds of camaraderie.
    • Pistons for Fists (imbue 1 legend, one scene): Your Close Combat and Athletics attack rolls strike with incredible force. On a hit, you can either send an opponent flying back one range band, or knock him prone. Felled enemies must succeed on a Dexterity + Athletics roll at Difficulty 3 to Rise from Prone even if you are not threatening them. This attack can scatter a group of trivial targets, gaining the Shockwave tag as long as all characters in the targeted range band are trivial.
  • Journeys: Travel and the methods by which you do so.
    • Innate Power: You have an unfailing sense of direction, allowing you to find a route that leads to any point in the World as an unrolled action, unless its position is obscured by magic. You can sense the presence of an Axis Mundi or other gate between realms of existence from (Legend) miles away.
  • Passion (Joy): Understanding the emotion of joy and the ability to manipulate, create, or destroy it.
    • Innate Power: You see into the hearts of others, gaining Enhancement 3 on Assess Attitude rolls (p. XX). If you observe someone who has a Bond towards another character present in the scene, you intuit the Bond’s existence.

Motifs: Alchemy manipulates the energies both within and without the body through exercises and concoctions associated with the five elements, Never get in the way of a drunken monkey.

Birthrights

Somersault Cloud of Sun Wukong ●●●●●

Appears to be a terribly colourful cloud where the colours shift through a bright spectrum as it moves, almost stylized and crisp in lines as if torn from an illustration of a cloud.

  • Enhancement: +3 Flight maneuverability and speed
  • Purview: Journeys
  • Motif: Swiftness and Freedom of the Open Sky
  • Knack: The wearer imbues a point of Legend to activate the cloud for a scene. For the duration, she can fly — she can take reflexive move actions vertically as well as horizontally, and for a point of Momentum she can move two range bands instead of one with a single move. She can’t rush or disengage while flying. She can also glide safely down from great heights at no Legend cost, by simply riding the cloud down (within the limitations of its Flaw) and letting them slow her descent.
  • Flaw: The cloud’s use is a gift from Monkey and the user gains the Paying Tribute Condition once per arc. As well, the cloud normally lives among its kin and must be whistled down to the user which requires a turn for it to arrive.
Black Bloc Cell ●●●●●

Not just her cell, but also Sun Jin's closest friends and confidants. They're a blend of tough, cool kids, and smart. They can go almost anywhere and help get Sun Jin and her Band there as well.

  • Types: Heavy, Entourage
  • Tags: Archetype (Entourage), Group, Tough, Knack (Immortal Sage: Overworld Knowledge), Access (Places I Shouldn't Be)
  • Members:
    • Mary Contrary: One of her direct sergeants who works at a biker dive. She provides some alternative perspective, even if she doesn’t believe it... just to make sure Jin is secure in choice.
    • Vivacious Vivian: Close friend to Jin and the heart and soul of the group. She is a punk band member.
    • Thurston Thule: Kinda a weirdo and a cultist of the Orisha, but good guy and believes in the cause. He’s a diviner, but also has a lot of respect for Ogun. He’s more backline, pulling people out of the fray and patching them up between clashes. His divinations help guide them to the places where the Orisha best think they could upset the established hierarchy.
Zhang Guolao, old man of the Eight Immortals ●●●●●

Brewer, trickster, fun-loving, and Necromancer... all are true descriptions of this immortal who was once known to have faked his own death (complete with rotting corpse) just to get out of visiting an emperor. Also known for his wine-making of divine properties.

  • Asset Skills: Close Combat, Medicine
  • Guide Stunt: With the expenditure of 3 successes, the user (or other ally) seems to die, even leaving behind a very convincing corpse. They gain 1 Enhancement to their stealth for the scene, and even able to hide in seemingly plain sight, taking no complication or difficulty from a lack of place to hide.
  • Legendary Title: Immortal Mischief-Maker
  • Calling: Creator
  • Purview: Epic Dexterity
Iarnvidia, nuturing Mother of Monsters ●●●●●

The path of a mother who accepts her children no matter their form, their nature, their origins.

  • Asset Skills: Empathy, Occult
  • Guide Stunt (2 successes): The character draws upon nature kindly yet mysterious that is known as Mother, the character negates any beneficial Enhancement an opponent might gain from their Attitude towards their "Mother" for the rest of the scene.
  • Legendary Title: Mother Who is With You
  • Calling: Creator
  • Purview: Curse
Five-Drinks Jug ●●●

This incredibly tough and rough jug was crafted from soil soaked in the blood of a terrible moss and vine covered giant that was attacking when Sun Jin was reviving Occupy Wall Street (even as the protesters were starting to get grow enthusiastic and the police were about to brutally push back), but she struck with full fury and over a long battle she took it down waving an Occupy Wall Street flag on a pole while standing upon its body.

  • Enhancement:
  • Death by Teacup Tags: Bashing, Melee, Pushing, Stun
  • Purview: Passion (Joy), Epic Strength, Booze
  • Motif: Always room for one more.
  • Knack: This jug everflows with spiced fruit and flower wine, never running out. It’s REALLY GOOD wine.
  • Flaw: This jug has soaked up not just the blood of a Titanspawn, but also the Legend of Sun Jin, becoming tied intimately with it. She has a dot of her Legend sunk into the jug’s existence.
