Back to Abyssal Charms or Dusk Caste

The Soul Consumption branch of charms

Thirsty Blade Strike

  Cost: 2 motes
  Duration: Instant
  Type: Supplemental
  Minimum Melee: 3
  Minimum Essence: 2
  Prerequisite Charms: Slashing Ghost Talon

The Abyssal imbues his blade with a dim echo of his own joy and hunger for the blood and life force of the living. Thin lines of black trace their mark all over the surface of the blade, sucking the blood and life from any victim that the blade touches. If an attack enhanced with this charm does more raw damage than the opponents armor-based soak, the weapon inflicts an extra (Essence)L damage as a separate source of damage. This damage ignores any armor that the opponent might be wearing, and is only soaked with raw stamina. A soulsteel weapon is particularly greedy for life energy, inflicting an extra dice of damage.

Quenching the Unrelenting Thirst

  Cost: 4 motes, 1 willpower
  Duration: One scene
  Type: Simple
  Minimum Melee: 4
  Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisite Charms: Crimson Banquet Method, Thirsty Blade Strike

The Abyssal awakens the urge to kill and destroy in his blade, which glows a dark black and pulses lightly with the color of the exalts Anima. The blade is filled with hate for the living and a dark thirst for the energy and blood of life, and seeks to glut itself whenever it injures an opponent for the rest of the turn. The blade inflicts +1L damage more than normal, and gains the benefits of Thirsty Blade Strike for every attack during the scene.

Soul-Absorbing Soulsteel Blade

  Cost: 2 motes, 1 willpower
  Duration: One hour
  Type: Simple
  Minimum Melee: 5
  Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisite Charms: Quenching the Unrelenting Thirst, Soul-Searing Blow

The Soulsteel blade of an Abyssal Exalt is among one of the most tormented things in Creation. A living soul, hammered into cold steel and alloyed with iron from the caverns at the root of raw nothingness. More than anything else, these blades desire the warmth and comfort that draining the life and essence out of a living being brings them. An Abyssal who uses this charm harnesses that hunger, turning it to his advantage. For the rest of the scene, every time the Abyssals Soulsteel weapon kills a target, the blade gains one soul counter that can be used with this charm and any other charms based off this charm. A Soulsteel weapon can hold a number of soul counters equal to its (Artifact rating x5), and the Abyssal can only spend a number of soul counters per turn equal to his Essence rating. A soulsteel blade consumes soul counters at the rate of 1 per hour, if the Abyssal has not already used them. This consumption leaves the blade content and full, causing it to not moan as often as it otherwise might.

When an Abyssal's blade has soul counters, he can burn them as a reflexive action. This does not count as a charm use, and allows the following options:

Soul Consumption options

  • The Abyssal may spend 1 soul counter to add +1 to his weapons accuracy and speed. This bonus lasts for the rest of the scene, and cannot exceed the characters Essence rating.
  • The Abyssal may spend 1 soul counter to add +2L damage to his weapons damage. This bonus lasts for a single instant, long enough for one attack.
  • The Abyssal may spend 1 soul counter in place of the willpower to activate a combo, provided the primary dice action for that combo is based off a Melee dice pool.
