< Shadow For Sun | Ex Pulplogs | Teaching A Dawn How To Fight >

Corve has been stirring. Another night on the ship; another night of worrying about his daughter; another night of numb, repeated nightmares of that vision he had not so long ago. He can't sleep, it makes him dream. The Night caste pushes himself up and swings his legs off the bed he shares with Carmine, bare feet coming down on the floor quietly, his hands coming to his face.

Kraken stirrs as she feels the movement next to her, reaching out for Corve in her half sleep, touching his leg "...Corve?"

Carmine stirrs as she feels the movement next to her, reaching out for Corve in her half sleep, touching his leg "...Corve?"

Corve lifts his face, looking over his shoulder, his smile morose. "Hey. Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you up."

Carmine shifts on the bed, moving so she can slip her arms around him properly "It's okay." She says, her voice still laced with the warm fuzzyness of sleep. "You're dreaming about Sun." It wasn't a question.

Corve twists his torso, arm sliding around her shoulders in return. "And you... and everything else. Do I talk in my sleep or something?" It's an actual question, despite his humored smile.

Carmine shakes her head, hair brushing his back.

Corve sighs, fingers curling hair red locks around themselves. "Every time I close my eyes, something comes at me. Shadows, Sun... my vision. I don't... I don't get it. And we've been chasing these bastards so long it just feels like we'll never catch them."

Carmine "We will do. They have to be waiting with Sun. So we can rescue her AND catch them."

Corve heaves a breath, sighing slowly. "Yeah. They have to be waiting-- and the Sun knows what they'll do to her if we can't manage to stop them. Falling Darkness keeps getting away, even when I mangled him... and..." Corve ducks his head, placing his forehead against the top of her head. "And this person. Ruby." That worries him.

Carmine "...Ruby." She said, and bit her lip, glancing down.

Corve "I don't think she's your sister," Corve mentions, voice muffled against her hair. "I think she's lying; or perverting some half-truth, at least," whatever that means.

Carmine "What?" Carmine asks the question confusedly. "She looks just like me though..."

Corve "That can be faked," Corve murmurs softly, his arms wrapping around her further. "Illusions, flesh sculpting... I've seen it before." He does work the supernal beat all over Brume, due to his Exalted nature. "I just don't think we should trust the word of any of these people."

Carmine nods reluctantly. She wanted to have a sister though ...

Corve pushes her hair back, to look at her face, brow furrowed. "What's wrong?"

Carmine shakes her head and looks down. "It's just ... what if she is my sister?"

Corve hrms, his free hand sliding up to ruffle his own hair, scratching a little. "That'd be interesting, wouldn't it?" He doesn't speak like he's worried, but there's a tellingt crease across his forehead. "I don't want to lose you," Corve murmurs after a moment, knocking his forehead with hers gently.

Carmine "You won't." She says, tilting her head up to kiss his lips. "I want to know, though."

Corve returns the kiss softly, a small smile crawling over his mouth. He reaches under her arms, wrapping his own around her, pressing himself against her warmly. "All right. We'll find out, then. Just as long as I don't... as you don't go anywhere." Selfish, maybe. But there it is.

Carmine "I won't leave you." She says as she presses up to him. "And you should get back to sleep."

Corve "I can't sleep. Can't close my eyes without seeing some tragedy or another. It's all muddling up in my mind, just..." He presses his hand to his forehead, and clenches his eyes shut. "I won't get any rest even if I sleep."

Carmine moves his hand aside and kisses his forehead and then his eyelids and then his lips. "It will be alright," she says as the breaks the kiss. "But you need to sleep ... you have to relax." She kisses him again.

Corve kisses her back, but it's short. He shakes his head. "How do I relax when I know my daughter's surrounded by hungry ghosts, and in the watch of people that only want us dead, and all that stands between her and those savage spirits is a few grains of salt?" It seems surreal. "It just..." He sighs, sinking his head back into the pillow, his hand finding hers. "I can't relax. I think about it all the time."

Carmine clasps his hand tightly then lays down next to him, letting him feel the warmth of her body as she presses up to him. "You have to, Corve." she murmurs into his shoulder. "You can't stay like this ..."

Corve "How else am I supposed to be, Carmine? I have my daughter trapped somewhere with the worst people I've ever had to pursue; my entire country is in danger from those same people; and you... and you're being haunted by some supposed sister who's also a part of this band of evil bastards." He closes his eyes, sinking his head further into the pillow. "I just... I don't know what to do."

Carmine sighs softly and presses closer into him. "Neither do I, except to carry on saving the world..."

Corve "I'm getting really sick of saving the world," he murmurs softly against her cheek, pressing his lips against it gently. "Doesn't mean I'm going to stop," Corve clarifies, sighing against her smooth skin. "But..."

Carmine "But ..." she questions

Corve "But sometimes I wish I could. We could. Just, all of us, get on a ship and high-tail it somewhere safe and peaceful. This is getting to me." No shit.

Carmine "Would anywhere be safe and peaceful if they complete their evil plans?"

Corve "That's the catch, ain't it?" Corve sighs and kisses Carmine again, his arm around her shoulders, dark eyes watching the ceiling of their quarters with a frown creasing his mouth. "I hope he doesn't run this time, the coward."

Carmine "Between us, we can catch him." She nods encouragingly, climbing on top of him to make sure he can't see the dark ceiling, just her own face.

Corve places his hands on her hips, raising a brow up at her. "See, now that's encouraging," the Night caste murmurs, pulling her down for a kiss. Yeah; he may get relaxed after all.

Carmine grins as she's pulled down for the kiss, letting this one stretch out. "Oh, really, it is? Just what's so encouraging about it?"

Corve "Companionship's always encouraging," Corve answers. His grin isn't exactly ecstatic, but at least he seems to not be actively fretting; at least not totally.

Carmine leans down to kiss him again, once more taking her time. "Mmmmm, it is..."

Corve nods a little against the kiss, turning to pin her down, sheets flapping. "Fun, too," he comments, hoping the ship's sturdy.

Carmine seems quite willing to test Corve's hope as she looks up at him from the bed.
