Back to Solar Charms or Twilight Caste

the Inner Form branch of Craft charms

Craftsman's Eye

  Cost: 1 mote
  Duration: Instant
  Type: Simple
  Minimum Craft: 3
  Minimum Essence: 2
  Prerequisite Charms: None

The character using this charm displays an astonishing mastery of tradecraft, and can accurately spot the details of an items construction and any special properties related to it. The Solar can automatically determine what materials the item was constructed with, what its rough mechanical purpose is, and what kind of treatment and conditions the item has been exposed to since it was constructed. Additional information requires a Crafts roll, usually involving Perception (or simple items) or Intelligence (for complex items). The difficulty varies depending on the age and complexity of the item. The Solar can use successes to ask the Storyteller questions about how the item was crafted, how to destroy or disrupt it, or other relevant questions. This charm can also evaluate raw materials, in so far as their suitability for a given crafting endeavor.

Unlocking the Inner Form

  Cost: 6 motes
  Duration: Until complete
  Type: Simple
  Minimum Craft: 4
  Minimum Essence: 2
Prerequisite Charms: Craftsman's Evaluating Eye, Flawless Handiwork Method

It is sometimes said by Master Craftsmen that every bit of stone or wood has something waiting within it, and the Solar Exalted know this to be true. A Solar with this charm can set himself before a given set of raw materials, and let the natural essence of his materials guide his craft into making the item to which those materials are most suited instead of artificially forcing the crafting toward his own wishes. The Solar has little control over the final item that is crafted when using this charm, but can typically make educated guesses as to what the outcome for any invocation of this charm will be by using Craftsman's Eye.

The crafting of an item with this charm takes the same amount of time that it would normally but is almost trivially easy, with the Solar only requiring a single success on a Wits + Craft roll to construct an almost perfect item. Indeed, items of this sort were typically called "True" in the first age, such as a "True Flute" or a "True Sword". Mechnically, such items are considered to be Perfect (see page 145 of the Exalted Players Guide). They are also somewhat more durable and slightly resistant to the Wyld. If this charm is stacked with Durability-Enhancing Technique and Chaos-Resistant Preparation, the object is almost unbreakable annd impossible for the Wyld to twist or shape.

Dream-Forged Goods

  Cost: 8 motes, 1 willpower
  Duration: One session
  Type: Simple
  Minimum Craft: 5
  Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisite Charms: Unlocking the Inner Shape, Impurity-Hammering Blow

It can be a great pain to any great craftsman when the items he crafts are less than the ones that he had crafted within his mind. Often this fault lies with the materials one is forced to work with and not the characters failings. This charm allows the character to surpass such limitations and instead forge items raw from his mind. This process takes just as long as normal and requires both tools and an appropriate workshop. The Solar at first seems to merely be going through the motion of his craft, but gradually a golden mote of light begins to take shape. Slowly it grows until it is a radiant burning shape that the Solar shapes into the final form of the item. The character requires no materials of any sort, conjuring what is needed from his soul and the essential energies of Creation itself.
