After having been booted out of Rivers' small apartment because of Xar's rudeness and arguments over the way Rivers treats his wife, Myrrh and Xar were forced to seek lodging in an inn. Only one would allow the pair of them to room there, claiming the Dragon-King would attract the wrong sort of customer. These people have seen only a rare few Dragon-Kings and most are afraid of Xar.
In their room, which is dank, musty, moldering and infested by five-legged rats and some kind of perpetually glowing insect Xar calls a lantern-bug, the two sit over a wobbly table.
Myrrh sits at the table silently, glowering at Xar. "You know, Xar, I think you could have shown a little restraint..."
Xar "It was not me!" he protests, sullenly.
Myrrh "Well then Xeth, i'm suprised. You usualy show some social restraint." Continues to glare, the usualy content Myrrh looks a bit...upset. "Do you WANT us to not recieve training?"
Xar snorts. "He is an insult to Shine's lineage." the fire flickers in his eyes briefly.
Myrrh "He's ALSO the only ally we have in the east. And he's also the only sorcerer I know of that isn't an insane manbeast or actively trying to send our skulls to the blessed isle."
Xar "You call that an ally?
Myrrh "He's proven himself to be helpful in the past and he didn't kill me when he found out about what I was. Better than I can say for alot of people these days. Look, i'm going to try and talk to him again and try to appologize, and i'd really like it if YOU would appologize too Xeth. We need this training, it could come in handy trying to find out what they wanted when they sunk the island." pauses for a moment and rubs his eyes in t
Myrrh "And besides, I think he was testing you."
Myrrh "Both of us."
Myrrh "Well...all three of us."
Xar "Testing us? Hmph."
Myrrh "Yes, I think he wanted to see our personalities and how we would react. How else is a master supposed to see who will make a worthwhile student?"
Xar "He overreacted. I don't think I want to learn from a man with such disrespect for family and the gods!"
Myrrh "Now Xeth, you can hardly say you didn't provoke him!"
Xar "I suggested attempting to mend the rift between his ahem wife, and her mother. I was being NICE. and GENEROUS. More than he deserved!"
Myrrh sighs and shakes his head. "Did you ask Xar if he feels the same way you do? Surely even in Yu-Shan they rules about not insulting a man in his own house..."
Xar "He insulted me first." he sulks
Xar "Besides, he smelled of a human woman."
Myrrh "I'm not going to say he isn't a little rough around the edges but look, you don't have to get along, you just have to be willing to learn and keep your mouth shut. Believe me, it took me awhile to get used to as well."
Xar sniffs.
Xar "Fine, I won't bring up his family anymore."
Xar "If you can even call it that."
Myrrh "We can try and talk to Crystal later, right now we should think about what we're going to say to Rivers...he seemed a bit angry. Maybe we should give him a little time to cool off?"
Xar "Yes, lets. Perhaps a decade would do the trick."
Myrrh "Xeth, I think we need to work on that attitude of yours one of these days."
Xar "Xar will learn. I have no need of it. He can take care of dealing with this wretch you wish to call master."
Myrrh rolls his eyes as Xeth takes more parting remarks but if he can hold up his end of the bargain maybe they could work something out. "Xar, what do you mean when you said he insulted you first?"
Xar "I am sorry, Myrrh.. he feels strongly for Shine Bright."
Xar "Is it not an insult to yell at someone for offering a gift?"
Myrrh "Well given, Xeth, that you and Shine Bright both consider him a PET, he might be insulted by implying it's HIS fault."
Xar "Xeth never said that it was his fault. Xeth just said he could try to make it better."
Xar "A happy wife makes a happy husband, yes?"
Xar "Plus Shine is goddess of wealth, and he wants wealth."
Myrrh "Well it depends on where they were married sometimes Xar." He chuckles and pats him on the shoulder. "I'm not sure what's happened since I've been gone. Like I said, we should talk to Crystal later."
Xar "He meant nothing ill by the offer, and to get yelled at so much for a good-heart offer, it angered him."
Myrrh "Well maybe he and Shine just don't get along. It wouldn't be the first time he's argued with gods..."
Xar "I don't understand why he is like that." he frowns. "In his place, I would take the gift gladly."
Myrrh "So would I, but I think there might be something about his background i'm not quite getting."
Xar "I do not know what to offer for payment."
Myrrh "Well in all the stories and legends I know sometimes students go and perform epic tasks for their masters. I think the first thing to worry about is to make sure he doesn't hit us with his giant hammer."
Xar "I don't know..." he replies dubiously. "He said we were to pay him."
Myrrh "Well then we'll come up with something. If not something we can make, then i'm sure there might be something to find in the old manse tomb I came here for originaly."
Xar nods, frowning.
