The Figurehead
Mai:
Strauss appears at the warehouse and tells us the entire book is wrong etc etc and Mai is too busy stepping away from him to hear the full statement, but she does hear Strauss say "I can arrange a meeting with him. Perhaps over a glass of the house wine."
Shortly after Strauss leaves, Randolf gets a call telling him his table at Giovanni's is ready. He now seeks a date. Mai believes that "him" that was mentioned is HIM and cringes away even if she sees it might be best for the group. She finally settles on the deal that Randolf has to buy her the most expensive dress in town for doing this. Mai is soon corrected that it is only J. Starr they are meeting and is happy with the sweet deal she made anyway for although she dislikes J. Starr she doesn't exactly fear him like some do. Mai orders a glass of the house wine. To her dismay, it is not blood.
J Starr, Michelle, and Nurse Spencer show up and negotiations begin. Nurse Spencer was a somewhat unexpected party, choosing to sit next to Mai, who sits stiffly for a while before she finds her wits and tongue once more. Mai somehow manages to keep Randolf from agreeing to anything while also keeping him from appearing unwilling to agree and thereby keeping a potential ally. The meeting goes mostly well. J Starr basically wants to find Irving and thinks we are the key.
J Starr appears to be under some influence and back at the warehouse there is much discussion about Nurse Spencer's possible influence over J Starr. We also debate to what end J Starr/Nurse Spencer/Marcellus/Achadremenos want to find Irving and agree it can't be good.
Jenny mentions we must find Alicia Lee and see if she is under similar influence. Mai opposes a direct confrontation and gets the usual tantrum from Jenny in protest. We simply do not see eye to eye in politics, which is why she is the caitiff and Mai is the harpy. Well, that and the "mix up at the hospital" in which Jenny was called 'caitiff' rather than 'ventrue' like she should've been. And Mai's sire's position in the political scene... and... oh damn.
Mai suggests we go to other sources like other harpies or primogen to find out about Alicia and whether she is still with J. Starr and whether she is influenced as well. Jenny finally agrees.
Mai calls her sire to arrange a meeting to get the ball rolling on this and find out when the next meetings are. Her sire also informs her that the city elders all have their underpants in a bunch about the book but can't get a copy and intend to hold meetings and possibly question Mai, which is mostly fine since Mai has only read the review and the first three chapters of the book so far. Still, Mai asks the group what impression they would like to leave if she is questioned. The group fails to understand what Mai is getting at and throws up their hands saying "Oh, they'll wipe your mind and find out everything anyway!" (sigh).
JT calls and says he found out something about the meeting Randolf and Mai had with J Starr that we didn't know. He hints that Mai should meet him alone to discuss this. Mai does offer the group to come but makes the whole thing sound boring and they choose not to join her.
Mai meets JT at the Ren Center where he tells her he has found New Salvation clinic. Seeing Mai's eyes widen, he mentions the books are there, says some disparaging but most likely true things about Randolf, and connects the dots in an interesting way. Mai finds a loophole in the contract and Mai agrees to join him on some personal business. What JT does not realize is that Mai will gain more in this business than he believes. Again, Mai is on the receiving end of a pretty nice deal. Perhaps she should tutor Randolf in his negotiation skills.
Mai is also promised another nice dress.

"Pages upon bloodly pages.... we attempt to keep up with the slow printing of the book. The interesting chapter before us allows a glimpse into Saturn's hazy past with and influences of Irving. Fouth Crusade. Damn, these are so old gibs. JT is convinced that the Master of Rats, who is Irving Mentor is still in Detroit - as is Irving but we haven't seen hide nor hair of either of them.
Randolph and Strauss (after gifting Jenny a grey queen chess piece) decide that a meeting with Jonathan Star is in order and being I be wanting to keep me ass safe, I stayed with the car as Jenny and JT both infultrated Giovanni's Restaurant. After a fairly brief meetin' we went back to the warehouse, despite the hauting, to try and read the book. Only then did we remember that JT, who ran off after the meetin', had the book with him.
As we all crowed around the moniter; and by all, I mean, Randolph, Jenny, Mai and meself.. Jenny decided it was time to play an advantage game. Who to give the book to? The arguing insues but with less vigor than usual - I guess it be because there was no Warlock to interceed. My vote lay with Saturn based on what we read earlier but that was quickly voted down. Alisha Lee was also mentioned as were a few others.
Mai left to meet with JT and the three of us kept reading hoping to learning all that Jonathan Star already knew. Flash of lighting later and bless my stars, in rolls Stauss and right behind him, Saturn...."
