<Mese> Aubrey Lake.
<Mese> High school beauty. Lacrosse captain. Voice of an angel.
<Mese> Gone now.
<Mese> Some unseen force - a teacher's forethought, perhaps, had led to the placing of the table, but the original motive was lost now, drowned in the sea of tributes.
<Mese> Offerings to the departed. Kind words for one with no ear to hear them. Flowers for one who will never see again.
<Mese> Ping is watching the shrine build up.
<Mese> People are generally huddled around in groups, with a small, respectful space left for people dropping off their cards and so on. Some girls are weeping, others gossiping, in twos and threes.
Ping watchs from a distance, not sure what to do and clearly uncomfortable
<Mese> The beefy girl Sarah seems particularly upset. Not because she's crying louder - in fact, she's all eerie quiet. But there's a look in her eyes.
<Abrielle> Standing at the shine Abrielle felt a lump in her throat. She had always thought that everything came to easily for Aubrey the white teethed smiles
<Abrielle> the perfect hair and figure
Laetitia touches Sarah lightly on the shoulder. "I'll be right back." She sidles over to Ping. "New girl, right? This must be awkward." She gives Ping a sympathetic smile.
<Mese> Abrielle and Helena are hanging back, by the far wall's lockers.
Cole leaves an white rose, with an odd glance at the picture of Aubrey in the center of the offerings.
Ping nods to Laetitia
Helena walks to the table clutching a small notebook.
<Ping> "You could say that..."
<Laetitia> "She was kind of the crown jewel of our little treasury. Damn good lacrosse player, too." She glances back at Sarah.
Abrielle reluctantly follows Helena.
Ping looks all the girls over, 'Yes, you can tell she was something special. Not to be insensitive... but what happened?'
<Mese> Official school word is that her death is "under investigation" by the police.
Cole walks over, a little uneasily, and joins the group across from Ping.
Helena looks around almost nervously, then slips a torn-out page from the notebook and folds it.
Abrielle tries not to stare at Ping for to long but finds it difficult given the intoxicating air that Ping alway seems to exude.
<Mese> Priti, the rich girl who sits in front of Ping, apparently overhears, or maybe is just that way inclined and buts in in a stage whisper. "I heard, she killed herself. It makes sense, right? Musical star, lacrosse captain, there's got to be a dark side there." She seems kind of smug about that.
Helena walks quickly away, leaving a folded piece of paper, the visible part showing a sketch of painted fingernails leaving a trail of scratches down a man's back.
Laetitia gives Ping a long, measuring look. "Nothing to be insensitive about. Death comes to all of us sooner or later. The police haven't said anything yet."
<Cole> "To us."
Ping gives Priti an furrowed brow and accusing glare before catching Abrielle's look and smiling back
<Laetitia> "I dunno, Priti. It could be -murder.-" She deposits a neatly wrapped parcel on the table - a little box just large enough for a lacrosse ball. "Maybe there's a girl-killer on the loose, just looking for his next victim."
Laetitia pauses dramatically. "It could even be you."
<Mese> Priti looks wide eyed at Laetitia. "Who said anything about murder?" She quickly turns about, giving Laetitia over the shoulder glances, and then begins gosspining with two other girls a few feet off. T Hey? keep giving nervous glances back Laetitia.
Laetitia waves brightly to Priti. Time for class!
<Mese> The bell rings. Abrielle, Ophelia and Laetitia all have science in room L17. Cole, Helena and Ping's class is on the other side of campus.
