Play by Chat (PBC) is played entirely via writing. It differs from Play By Post (PBP) in that everyone commits to a particular time and date, and plays simultaneously, thus creating a back and forth flow and avoiding the stops and starts of PBP. Like other forms of group RP, however, PBC is dependent on enough people showing up to the session for it to run.
Discord is a popular chat system that allows people to create and join private servers (also called guilds), which are then organized into channels. The channels can be public or private and generally contain either a topic - or in our case - channels dedicated to playing and talking about specific games. While there are many ways of doing this, I have found the best method is to have two channels per game:
