The Flying Crane

Level Four Orichalcum-and-Moonsilver Long Powerbow

Lengthy history of the Flying Crane here! Maybe later!

Note to John: I still have the original version of the Crane, but if you insist on using it instead you'll have to make several changes. I think you'll prefer this version, anyway. I hope you like the Crane Arrows!

Other Powers of the Flying Crane

  • Martial Weapon: The Flying Crane is a martial arts weapon, and can be used as such by Martial Artists. It does not count as a signature weapon for styles that do not allow a bow to be used with unarmed charms, however.
  • Quick: You can prepare and string the Flying Crane as a reflexive action, allowing you to ready the bow for use at an instant. This ability costs 1 mote of essence.
  • Crane Arrows: The Flying Crane automatically generates its own ammunition, which are called Crane Arrows. Every day the bow produces 10 crane arrows of any type the bearer wishes, with the previous days arrows dissolving into multicolored essence.
    • Flock of Cranes: With a simple action, the bearer of the Crane can spend 1 willpower and manifest an additional 10 crane arrows of any type he wishes. If the Solar possesses the Phantom Arrows Technique charm, he may make additional Crane Arrows as he wishes using that charm instead. These arrows vanish at the beginning of the next day if not used.
    • Red Crane Arrow: A Red Crane arrow is particularly vicious and barbed, both painful during attack and afterwards. A Red Crane Arrow is a target arrow that does +1L damage, but each arrow that hits also inflicts a cumulative -1 penality (maximum of the bearer's Essence), and removing a Red Crane arrow safely requires a medicine dice action. Otherwise the arrow inflicts an additional 1L damage when removed.
    • White Crane Arrow: A White Crane arrow are uncannily accurate, especially against targets that are moving. White Crane Arrows increase the accuracy of the bow by the bearers Essence, and add two automatic successes against moving targets.
    • Blue Crane Arrow: A Blue Crane arrow is persistent and stubborn, refusing to be deterred from its target by trickery. Blue Crane Arrows cannot be dodged by their target, and must either miss cleanly or be destroyed by a parry.
    • Black Crane Arrow: A Black Crane arrow is dark and disturbing, its bite bringing distraction and an unhinged mind. Anyone damaged by a Black Crane arrow (not including minimum damage) takes a +2 difficulty penality to conviction actions, and looses 1 dot in both his Conviction and Temperance virtue. These penalities are not cumulative, but additional hits drain one point of willpower.
    • Red Crane arrows are always target arrows. White and Blue Crane arrows can be any type of arrow that the bearer desires. Black Crane arrows are always frog crotch arrows.
  • Majestic Crane Transformations: You can transform your Crane Arrows!
    • Red Crane Transformation: You can spend 7 motes, 1 willpower to fire 10 red crane arrows which transform into a flock of blood-thirsty origami cranes after they are fired. Only one attack roll is made, but each crane must be defended against separately. Each arrow must attack a separate target. If there are not enough targets within range, the red cranes will fly off on a general mission of violence as normal (if mean-spirited) cranes. This ability creates the crane arrows that you need to use this power.
    • White Crane Transformation: You can spend 3 motes to transform a white crane arrow that you've fired into an origami crane. These cranes will pause and recieve a single order from the bearer of the Flying Crane, and then depart to carry out that order. Once their orders have been fulfilled or after travelling the bearers (Essence x100) miles the origami crane turns into a normal White Crane.
    • Blue Crane Transformation: You can spend 7 motes, 1 willpower to fire 10 blue crane arrows which transform into a flock of indestructable origami cranes after they are fired. These 10 cranes, acting in concert, can grant a single automatic success to one task of the bearers choice. The Cranes cannot fly further than line of sight to aid in this manner, and after they have aided the endeavor of the bearers choice they become Essence 1 Water Elementals in the form of Blue Cranes. If 100 of these Crane Elementals join together, they become a single Essence 2 Crane Elemental, and so on.
    • Black Crane Transformation: You can spend 5 motes to transform a black crane arrow that you've fired into an origami crane. These cranes have a Strength of 2, and a Dexterity and Stamina equal to the bearers Essence. They have a Brawl (Beak +2) and Dodge rating equal to 4, and are treated as an automaton. They have a natural beak attack that does Strength +4L damage, and can fly at a speed of their (Dexterity x10) yards per turn. These Crane automatons are treated as extras for damage purposes. They dissolve into multicolored essence when the Flying Crane creates new arrows the next day.
    • Gift of the Crane: Normally, one can only use Crane Arrows with the Flying Crane. However, for 10 motes, 1 willpower and 3xp the bearer of the Crane can create 10 crane arrows of a given type. These arrows are Artifact 1, and can be used by any bow or the Flying Crane herself. They allow one to use the relevant arrows, as well as the appropriate type of Majestic Transformation for double the mote cost.

The Flying Crane is a hybrid-Artifact, built of Orichalcum and Moonsilver. When attuned by a Solar or a Lunar or fully attuned by any Exalted, the weapon provides the following benefits: +2 accuracy, +1 damage, +1 rate, +50 yards.

Commitment Cost: 8 motes
