Unusual Background

  • Unusual Background [5] is the "low" level of unusual background in The Game. It refers to any character with a decidedly weird and advantageous background. This includes conspiracy theorists with some knowledge of the weird, or seekers of the occult who have learned a bit of real power. It also covers innate but unexpressed potential, like unmanifested psionic potential.
  • Unusual Background [10] is the "medium" level of unusual background in The Game. It is for characters with strange or unnatural traits, provided those traits are largely out of their control or relatively minor. This can include people with the ability to speak with Cats (probably due to having a Bast in their bloodline), or someone with a entirely raw and uncontrollable psionic power.
  • Unusual Background [15] is the "high" level of unusual background in The Game. It refers to characters that have unusual capabilities and powers beyond the average, without having mastery of those abilities or unusual levels of knowledge about the world. This includes psionic wild talents, those who have dabbled some in magic, and most PC-level members of Races like the Gray.
  • Unusual Background [30] is the "very high" level of unusual background in The Game. It refers to characters that are an active and integral part of "the weird", with innate advantages that they have developed and mastered. This includes highly trained psionic masters, cunning masters of wizardry, and conspiratorial masterminds of various sorts.

Individual backgrounds might warrant more than 30 points of Unusual Background, but its rare.
