City (or White) Dwarves

White Dwarf Racial Traits

  • +2 Wisdom, -2 Dexterity: City Dwarves tend to be patient, observant and practical, but the ease of getting around on the surface over the age has resulted in them being less agile than most of their kind.
  • Medium: As Medium creatures, dwarves have no special bonuses or penalities due to their size.
  • Dwarf base land speed is 20 feet. However, dwarves can move this speed even when wearing medium or heavy armor or carrying a medium or heavy load (unlike other creatures, whose speed is reduced in such situations.)
  • Darkvision: Dwarves can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and dwarves can function just fine with no light at all.
  • Stability: Dwarves are exceptionally stable on their feet. A dwarf gains a +4 bonus on ability checks made to resist being bull rushed or tripped when standing on the ground (but not when climbing, flying, riding, or otherwise not standing firmly on the ground).
  • A City Dwarf recieves one extra skill point at every even level; 2nd level, 4th level, 6th level, etc. City Dwarves are much more cosmopolitian than their subterrainean cousins and pick up skills much easier.
  • +2 racial bonus on saving throws against poison: Dwarves are hardy and resistant to toxins.
  • +2 racial bonus on saving throws against spells and spell-like effects. Dwarves have an innate resistance to magic spells.
  • A Dwarf can reroll a failed Will saving throw that would cause him to harm his friends or family. In contrast, a Dwarf that purposely brings harm to his friends or family suffers from a -4 morale penality to all rolls until he makes amend for his failure. A dwarf decides who is friends are, but is stuck with his family as they are.
  • +2 racial bonus on Appraise checks, and on a single Craft skill of the Dwarf's choice. Dwarves are raised from birth as nature craftsmen, and can recognize good work and engage in a bit of craft themselves. Appraise and Craft are always considered Class skills for Dwarves.
  • Automatic Languages: Common, and Dwarven. Bonus Languages: Any, except Druidic and other secret tongues.
  • Favored Class: Cleric. A multiclass dwarf's cleric class does not count when determining whether he takes an experience penality for multiclassing (see XP for Multiclass Characters, page 60 of the PHB). The service of the One God is especially prized among the City Dwarves, and most adventurers from this race are so blessed.
