Greektown
With its six Greek restaurants and numerous other Greek-themed shops, this busy block on
Monroe Street between Beaubien and St. Antione has long been one of Detroit’s most
popular destinations. Made up of 19th century buildings and located adjacent to Trappers Alley
it is frequented by middle class shoppers, artists, and a few seniors hanging around from their
coffee house card games after dark.
To the kindred this ethnic neighborhood has a sinister history. The reviled anarch leader
Dwight Monroe once claimed this block as his personal domain, and repeatedly defied Prince
Ryecroft’s attempts to shut his crime syndicate down. Tonight, the area is shunned by all but
those desperate for feeding grounds and some of the anarchs who once associated with Monroe.
