Maria's Legacy

Created by Telgar, Maria's Legacy is a sci-fi setting congealed from stolen ideas, overactive imagination and long, involved trances of boredom and insanity.

In 2082 the apocolypse seemed only hours away. Terrorism, fanaticism, starvation, poverty and plague ravaged the world. In a desperate attempt to preserve humanity a collalition of the Chinese, American, French, English, German and Russian governments gathered 10,000 volunteers and loaded them aboard four experimental starships. These 10,000 brave explorers launched towards the only confirmed habitable planet known to humanity: Epsilon Eridani IV.

A hundred and fifty years later the colonists have formed a strong nation: the Eridani Confederacy. Controlling two star systems, six planets and thirteen moons the Confederacy pushed its limits and stretched towards home, trying to regain contact with Earth and see if any other humans had survived the intervening years.

Back on Earth, the people of the world had suffered and perservered, the power structure of the world had collapsed and reformed. The 10,000 were mourned as lost since no contact had been made with them since their departure. The new world nations, having secured tense but non-violent relationships on Earth and struggling under the limitations of Earth's rapidly disappearing natural resources, decided to venture back into space. They had no idea that out in the dark there was a powerful human nation attempting to reach back toward them.

When contact occured it was pleasant, a joyful reunion of long-lost cousins. But a hundred and fifty years of seperation and divergence had taken their toll and the people of Earth had little in common with those of the Eridani Confederacy. Earth's nations wanted space for themselves and asserted that it was their right to claim whatever they wished from the Confederacy since they were the ones who had sent out the colonists. The proud and self-reliant people of the Eridani worlds refused to bow to their long-absent cousins.

As tensions rise between the Confederacy and Earth as a whole, the nations of Earth find themselves growing more and more hostile towards eachother as the scramble for new worlds becomes more crowded. The future is uncertain and no one can trust anyone else. The two halves of humanity are reunited, but will they become a whole...or destroy each other?
