In the First Age, much that we view as strange and magical was commonplace. While the Golden City had suffered from gradual decline for centuries, much still remained that was a forgotten and lost relic of past ages. Most of the following "artifacts" are, for the time being at least, freely available with Resources to Rohan characters and those who trade with Rohans frequently enough (add +2 to the Resource cost).
Some of the cheaper artifacts can still be freely made by the Rohani craftsmen among the Orile and other families, and will likely make their mark on Creation the same way that Haslani Airships and Firedust has, in the long run. The secrets of others have been lost, or the infrastructure that allow their manufacture was simply destroyed when the Rohani were forced to abandon Del Roh. They will gradually fade away, until the last few remnants are considered to be Artifacts.
Heat Orbs (Resources 2)
A small light metal bulb about the size of an adult hand, Heat Orbs are simple enough to use and were extensively use for warmth during the cool desert nights immediately following the Exodus. All one needs to do to activate a heat orb is concentrate for a moment and spend a point of willpower, after which time the orb turns a light white color to indicate it has been activated. The orb sheds a quite impressive amount of heat, easily sufficient to warm a small-sized family in the open or an entire tent. Despite this, heat orbs are never more than a bit warm to the touch and cannot cause actual fires. A heat orb can be deactivated with a touch, and lasts for about a week of continuous activation.
The city once had a positively huge stockpile of these, largely in the control of the Zeshalla, but after the Exodus that family handed out these to more or less every Rohani. Over the long cold months after the Exodus, the supplies were worn down entirely. The Zeshalla still has a large supply of heat orbs and can slowly make more with the proper supplies, but only those of comfortable means can afford them.
Copper-Plate Armor (Resources 3)
Easily forged and mass produced in Del Roh, Copper Plate was simply beaten into the proper shape by Orile craftsmen and then treated with various chemical and essence devices that no longer exist in order to make the material as strong as steel and yet still retain much of its essential flexibility. Even with the inability to make more, the Copper-Plate Armor of Rohan is likely to remain for quite some time, simply because there is so much of it.
Name | Soak (L/B) | Mobility Penality | Fatigue |
Medium Armor | |||
Copper Plate | 5/6 | -1 | 2 |
Shock Arrows (Resources 2)
Crystal-headed arrows that flare with electricity after hitting, Shock Arrows have always been one of the foremost weapons of Rohan Archery battalions and were used to great effect by the Rohan Legions in thet battle against the Realm. The Orile can still produce small numbers of Shock Arrows, because most of the equipment that produces them was small and portable enough to be evacuated, but cannot keep up with the demand. Thus, the supply is slowly declining as they are used but is unlikely to run out entirely.
Shock Arrows are target arrows, and inflict +0L damage and halve armor-based soak. In addition, they inflict 4L of electricity damage on a successful hit. Resources 2 buys a quiver of 20 or so of the arrows.
Lightning Swords (Resources 4)
Very light blue-bladed weapons that crackle when used, Lightning Blades have always been very popular among the Zintoba Legions, with several groups specializing in arranging elaborate and beautiful light shows with the weapons. They are also quite useful in combat, and those units that were equipped with them were very impressive indeed. The Rohani Legions have a large stockpile of these weapons, but the equipment necessary to manufacture them is gone forever. The resource costs represents the difficulty of finding them for trade, as they are not commonly offered for sale.
With the proper Melee specialities, large units of men with Lightning Swords can create impressive sheets (for defense) or arcs (for offense) of electricity. This is mostly a roleplaying matter and requires at least 25 men with lightning swords. In game effects, sheets of electricity add a blanket +2 difficulty cover bonus to the shielded units, while arcs of lightning have a range of 50 yards, an accuracy of +1 and inflict 12L damage (as a guideline; larger formations can do more damage) or smaller amounts of damage over an area. Heroic individuals can utilize stunts to utilize lightning in various ways, but these tactics are not as potent as the larger unit tactics.
Name | Speed | Accuracy | Damage | Defense | Rate |
Lightning Blade | +5 | +2 | +4L | +2 | 4 |
The Rohan Legions have small stores of Ashigaru and Gunzosha armor, though historically most of this armor has belonged to the Morovan and the Zintoba are not familiar with its use or the tactics available to it. The Rohan also have a small cache of Shock Pikes, which are frequently used by Rohani Officers. The Orile used to be able to produce Shock Pikes at some expense and difficulty, but those days are long past.
