Mandate Of Heaven
Despite its many fantasy trappings, Mandate of Heaven is in fact a setting in the midst of its Industrial Revolution, which began in South America and quickly spread to North America and then throughout the rest of the Empire and Africa. While a lot of the scientific stuff was well regarded and many considered it a good thing, it wasn't until the first railroads that it truly began to infest the Empire proper with real zeal. While parts of the Steppes Provinces still resist change and development, the Empire as a whole has covered its expanses in Railroads and committed itself to progress. These days most new arrivals to Capital come by train car, rather than walking down into the valley on foot.
