Back to Kalushtar Prelude or Index
Sun-ya was a bright and glorious soul, born in unfortunate circumstances. A young healthy child was a rare thing in village of Two Flowers -- located, as it was, in the Shadowland of Dark Sky. Suni-ya was the youngest child of her village, by thirteen years, the only child in a village that was slowly dying. More than simply a young living girl, however, she was perhaps the most beautiful young woman in the village. This young one was seen by man as the hope and future of the village, and thus it hurt them greatly when the beautiful youth captured the attention of the Deathlord Father of Darkness upon her 16th birthday.
There was nothing to be done, however, when the War Ghosts came for the youth. She meekly followed them, and took up her place in the dark tower of the Deathlord, serving as his maiden-servant and concubine. In the times when she was not otherwise engaged in the service of her master, she dallied in the libraries and studies of the tower. After 6 years of service she was educated, willful and strong of character. When the Father of Darkness left to make war on the City of Glass, Suni-ya's independent spirit was given a chance to shine. Though kept carefully guarded, she still enjoyed as much of a run of the Manse as she had always enjoyed during her long imprisonment. Unseen to any, she found her way into the secret hidden libraries of the Deathlords and drank deeply of the knowledge held within.
She had mastered some of the lesser mortal arts of necromancy, and was already planning her eventual escape, when word finally came from the Deathlord. He had settled in Chiaroscuro, taken up a seat in the Black Citadel, and finally called for the luxuries he had left behind in his tower. It was when she arrived in Chiaroscuro that Sun-ya sprang her plan, disrupting the Ghosts that were looking after her, and making her escape into the still chaotic streets of the City of Broken Glass.
It nearly worked as well; she had disrupted all of the ghosts but one. When she made her hasty escape into the chaotic streets of the city, using the knowledge gained from ancient maps of the city that the Father had kept, she was followed. The Ghost howled for her to stop this madness, but she kept running -- faster now, panicked by something in the fallen spirits voice. She lost her way, took a wrong term, and went down a blocked path.
She turned, wide-eyes...glowing bright gold.
She was free, but she would not run. She would make a stand here, in this broken city.
